Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Laboratory Technician will handle the following duties under the supervision of the Vice Principal:
- Preparing Secondary School students’ practical courses (TP) for the Biology (SVT) teachers in the specified laboratory: prepare the required products, organize the trolley with equipment, and set up the materials and products on the students’ or teachers’ workbenches.
- After practical courses: tidy and clean the equipment used by students and/or teachers, return it to the laboratory, and handle chemical products if needed.
- Maintaining and managing the stocks of equipment and products required to conduct the experiments: update the list of available equipment and products, inventory broken or defective materials, expired or insufficient products, and carry out minor repairs.
- Assisting the Laboratory Manager in managing purchases (equipment and products): request quotes from local suppliers, check materials and products upon receipt of the order, and buy common-use products in stores for practical courses.
- Ensuring compliance with safety rules in laboratories.
- Carrying out educational projects and testing for their smooth functioning.
- Developing and updating worksheets for the practical courses.
- Ensuring cleanliness of workbenches and the laboratory.
- Obligatory presence: one week after the end of the school year and one week before the start of the school year; presence required from 7:30 AM Monday to Friday.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Polytechnic Diploma in Biology or General with significant experience in this field
- Good knowledge of biology required and geology desired
- Experience in a laboratory appreciated
- Good command of English language
- Ability to communicate in French to support interactions with French-speaking students, staff and materials used in the school environment
- Meticulous, organized, autonomous, practical, capable of initiative and adaptation
- Able to work accurately and methodically within a team
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time, 42 hours per week
- According to the Administrative and Educational Staff Salary Grid
- Holidays correspond to school vacations, minus one week after the end of the courses and one week before the start
- Fixed term contract to cover maternity leave (September to January).
