Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Laboratory Officer (Mechanical) to support the setup, maintenance, and operation of mechanical systems in an ocean basin laboratory. This role is ideal for a Polytechnic graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, with a strong interest in mechanical systems, fabrication, and experimental setups.

Key Responsibilities

    Assist in the design, setup, and assembly of experimental rigs for marine and hydrodynamic testing projects.
    Maintain and operate key mechanical systems in the ocean basin laboratory
    Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of basin mechanical systems to ensure reliable and safe operation.
    Fabricate mechanical components using equipment such as 3D printers, lathes, and milling machines.
    Monitor system performance during experiments and assist in troubleshooting and calibration.
    Actively participate in experimental activities and model testing.
    Maintain documentation including maintenance logs, SOPs, and experimental setup guides.
    Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and consumables using 5S principles for organized, efficient, and safe workspace management.
    Assist in procurement and restocking when needed.
    Ensure all activities follow safety procedures and operational protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

    Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field from a recognized polytechnic.
    2-5 years of experience in a mechanical workshop, lab, or testing facility.
    Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance, fabrication, and system assembly.
    Working knowledge of CAD software and the ability to interpret mechanical drawings is preferred.
    Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and in a team.
