Laboratory Manager, Construction Material Testing #ISO17025 #NJH

Primary Responsibilities

1. Oversee the daily laboratory operations and manage a team to ensure efficiency and safety.
2. Provide technical advice and training on test result interpretation.
3. Ensure compliance with international testing standards and promote a safe working environment.
4. Manage and supervise a team of technical staff for both field and laboratory sampling and testing of construction materials, namely concrete, aggregates, soils, asphalt, steel, and other materials as required.
5. Manage the daily operations and efficiency of the laboratory in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
6. Understand the requirements of international testing standards and verify test results before issuance.
7. Ensure adherence to the company Quality System and laboratory management system requirements.
8. Liaise with clients regarding technical and logistical enquiries.
9. Integrate corporate functions such as administration, procurement, logistics, IT, and other company units into overall laboratory management.
10. Identify potential new areas of growth and opportunity for the laboratory.
11. Take the lead in laboratory business performance, financial review, and report to senior management.
12. Conduct regular formal and informal technical presentations to relevant stakeholders.

The Requirements:

1. Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or related field.
2. At least 8 years of relevant working experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role ideally with laboratory operations management and supervision of materials testing operations.
3. Good technical knowledge, well versed in ISO 17025 documentation and technical documents such as BS, EN, ASTM, etc.
4. A certified SAC-SINGLAS signatory will be advantageous.
5. Self-motivated, meticulous, and committed individual who can work well under pressure and within tight deadlines.
6. Able to work independently with a high level of initiative and resourcefulness.
7. Ability to build and maintain relationships, understand client needs, and deliver to meet their expectations.
8. Acts quickly and decisively with the ability to make tough calls.
9. Good communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
