Who We Need
Laboratory Technologists perform diagnostic tests, manage blood products, maintain equipment, and ensure accurate records while collaborating with medical staff and adhering to safety standards.
Their expertise supports clinical decision-making and ensures high-quality laboratory operations and patient care.
The responsibilities are as stated below:
Pre-analytical:
- Perform heel prick tests for neonates with precision and care.
- Receive specimens and enter test orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), ensuring alignment between patient information and specimen details.
- Prepare test media and reagents required for analytical procedures.
Analytical:
- Perform all in-house laboratory tests in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Familiarise with workflows and technical benchwork across all laboratory sections (Blood Transfusion Services, Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, Serology), rotating independently to maintain competency.
- Perform routine calibration and quality control checks and maintain analysers and instruments according to established protocols.
- Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new instrumentation and test methodologies.
Post-analytical:
- Accurately enter test results into the LIS and verify data integrity.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in compliance with regulatory and institutional guidelines.
Blood Transfusion Services:
- Coordinate with dispatch staff to ensure timely delivery and collection of blood and blood products.
- Issue blood products to patients accurately and without delay.
- Manage blood product inventory effectively, ensuring proper documentation and stock levels.
Administrative:
- Conduct weekly inventory checks of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Assist in activities required by accreditation bodies, including scheduled verification of test performance and documentation audits.
- Maintain a safe and clinically compliant testing environment, adhering to infection control and safety standards.
How to Succeed
- Possess a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences or a relevant Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Have a minimum of 2 years of working experience in a clinical laboratory setting, preferably in a hospital or healthcare institution.
- Be available to perform shift duties, including night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Be proficient in using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and familiar with automated laboratory equipment.
- Exhibit excellent teamwork, communication, and time management skills.
- Show commitment to continuous learning, including participation in training, workshops, and professional development programs.
- Maintain a high standard of clinical safety, data accuracy, and patient confidentiality.
