Job Purpose:
The Junior SMPTE 2110 Engineer will assist in the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IP-based media networks built on the SMPTE ST 2110 standard. This role supports the transition from SDI to IP workflows within broadcast and production environments, ensuring the reliable transport of video, audio, and ancillary data over IP networks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the configuration, testing, and maintenance of SMPTE 2110-compliant systems, including video/audio over IP infrastructure.
- Assist senior engineers in the design, deployment, and troubleshooting of IP media networks and related broadcast equipment (routers, switches, gateways, PTP clocks, etc.).
- Monitor and maintain IP broadcast networks using tools such as Wireshark, NMOS controllers, and broadcast-specific monitoring systems.
- Support the integration and operation of related technologies: NMOS IS-04/IS-05, AES67, PTP (Precision Time Protocol), and AMWA standards.
- Assist with system documentation, signal flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with IT and broadcast teams to ensure smooth operation of hybrid SDI/IP or fully IP-based environments.
- Provide first-line support during live productions and critical broadcasts.
- Keep up to date with industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies in media over IP.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- Diploma in Broadcast Engineering, Networking,Media Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of IP networking (Layer 2 /Layer 3, multicast, VLANs, QoS).
- Familiarity with SMPTE 2110 standards and IP-based media workflows (video, audio, ancillary over IP) is an advantage.
- Understanding of PTP (IEEE 1588) timing and synchronization principles.
- Basic knowledge of broadcast environments,especially live production workflows.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and live event schedules.
Preferred:
- Exposure to media-over-IP systems from vendors like Grass Valley, Lawo, Imagine Communications, EVS, Sony, etc.
- Experience with tools like Wireshark, IP flow analyzers, and broadcast monitoring software.
- Familiarity with NMOS protocols and API-based control systems.
- IT certifications (CCNA, CompTIA Network+, etc.) would be beneficial.
