Job description

Roles & Responsibilities

This regional Ship Management Company has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Ship Operator to join the team. This is an interesting role with strong long-term prospects which will be ideal for someone who is looking to transition from a Boarding Officer role into a commercial role, and yet is still able to cover occasional Boarding Officer duties.

  1. Assist in issuing orders including loading and discharge instructions;
  2. Assist in ensuring that Charterers, Traders, and all relevant parties are kept fully informed of latest ship schedules and programmes;
  3. Assist in issuing and releasing of Bills of Lading where applicable and ensuring timely receipt of Bill of Lading data to facilitate commencement of invoicing process;
  4. Assist in monitoring collection of freight and surrender of Bills of Lading consistent with Charter Party terms;
  5. Assist in preparation of all required shipping documentations, LOIs etc.
  6. Facilitate and process paperwork, port clearance, immigration and other regulatory requirements for vessels and crew.
  7. Manage and maintain proper filing records.
  8. Coordinate the transportation of people, spare parts, goods, to and from vessels, and technical repairs of vessels.
  9. Prepare movement and log sheets.
  10. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned to facilitate smooth operations of vessels, including boarding officer duties during managed vessels’ Singapore port calls.

About You:

  • Previous experience sailing onboard vessels (Deck/Engine Department) preferable but not essential. This would suit someone looking to move to a shore-based environment.
  • Ideally from a Commercial Shipping/Port Agency background.
  • Keen and enthusiastic to grow your career, and most importantly to learn.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and strong sense of integrity and professionalism.
  • Able to start immediately.
