Job description

A reputable MNC is looking for a Junior Legal Counsel to be a part of their Treasury team and provide legal support to the organization and its affiliated entitites. This role will work closely with the Finance Legal Counsel, support the internal legal and treasury functions onf a wide range of legal, finance, and treausry-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate documents relating to ship financing and other finance or treasury-related activities, such as term sheets, loan and security agreements, swap documentation, and corporate authorizations.

  • Assist with vessel sale and purchase transactions, financing arrangements, and loan drawdowns, including preparing mortgage release documents and managing pre-delivery drawdowns and vessel deliveries.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and departments regarding vessel documentation, insurance matters, regulatory compliance, and corporate secretarial work; including preparing know-your-customer (KYC) materials and corporate resolutions.

  • Communicate with external law firms, banks, ship registries, and other third parties as required.

  • Maintain and organize legal records and documentation.

  • Manage transactions by preparing and tracking conditions precedent, obtaining approvals for fees and expenses, arranging invoice payments, and closely monitoring deadlines and significant events.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree in law; legal qualification required.

  • Admission as a practicing lawyer in England & Wales, Singapore, or another common law jurisdiction is preferred.

  • 1-5 years of legal experience, ideally within the legal department of an international company or a law firm.

  • Background in shipping and/or finance is advantageous but not mandatory. Open to aviation background candidates too.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to collaborate in a team environment, and a proactive, independent work ethic.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • High motivation to grow within the role and take on increasing responsibility.

  • Effective time management with the capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
