PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join the BBC World Service to launch a brand-new podcast from our Singapore bureau, bringing Asian perspectives to global issues and delivering original reporting on the most compelling stories across Asia-Pacific. As a Journalist, you’ll produce a digital-first programme designed for YouTube and audio platforms- connecting with new audiences across the region. You’ll play a key role in producing insightful, wide-reaching content.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
  • Will be required to edit material for broadcast and may be required to undertake on-air reporting
  • Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
  • To liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
  • Take a lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.
  • To tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
  • Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Significant recent experience as a journalist or producer, with a good knowledge of production techniques and who demonstrates sound editorial and policy decisions
  • Extensive knowledge of Asia-Pacific having worked or lived in the region.
  • A self-starter who enjoys working independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues in the newsroom
  • Flexibility and willingness to work unpredictable hours if needed
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills, especially working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Effective planning and organising skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Digital media experience; using digital media tools and production skills to source and create content that resonate with audiences
  • Experience working with or alongside social teams.
  • Experience editing on FCP or similar systems.
