The Opportunity

Based in Singapore, you will be an integral part of the Private Capital team with a focus on supporting direct investments & opportunities in Japan and South Korea. You will play a key role in supporting senior investment professionals in analyzing potential investment opportunities and executing transactions in Asia Pacific, particularly in Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. You will also be involved with monitoring the performance of existing investments and working with portfolio company management teams to craft strategy and implement value-enhancing initiatives. The Investment Associate will contribute to a team culture where multiple investment groups will collaborate to effectively cover the market.

Who you’ll work with

In your role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of professionals including colleagues and teams based in Singapore, India, Hong Kong Toronto and London as well as outside professionals such as management teams of our assets, investment bankers, consultants, board directors and lawyers.

What you’ll do

You will work with colleagues on small deal teams, evaluating potential investments and determining whether the company represents an attractive investment opportunity. This includes supporting investment origination by conducting industry and company research, building sophisticated financial models, managing third-party advisors and analysing due diligence reports, arranging debt financing, reviewing legal documentation, and preparing materials to support our recommendations to the Investment Committee.

Once a transaction has been completed, you will remain involved with the business, potentially attending board meetings as an observer, and will work with the management team to implement value-enhancing initiatives, such as acquisitions, debt refinancing, budgeting and other strategic projects.

What you’ll need

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree with a strong academic record from a top tier university. CFA and / or other meaningful designations considered an asset
  • 2 to 4 years of related work experience, ideally in investment banking, private equity, principal investing, equity research, management consulting or transaction advisory
  • Fluency in Japanese is considered essential, Korean language skills would be considered an asset
  • Sophisticated skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint are a requirement
  • Sector specific experience in building three-statement models as well as developing forecasts and valuations
  • Experience in the investment process, including conducting due diligence
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written with outstanding presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to demonstrate experience in performing in-depth, critical analysis
  • Strong proficiency in written and verbal English
  • Exposure to international markets
  • A relationship builder and an effective teammate with strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and possess unquestioned personal and professional integrity
  • Ability to meet timelines and operate in a highly driven and demanding work environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
