Our Regional team now has an exciting opportunity for an Independent Health & Safety Reviewer to join our fantastic team.

Position Objective

To review health & safety practice across Cognita sites as outlined in published frameworks and documents.

Specifics

1. Undertake independent Health & Safety reviews and monitoring visits in line with an agreed deployment schedule.

2. Review practice against policy, and the agreed framework in a professional and consultative manner, taking account of local context.

3. Maintain strong professional relationships which are based on integrity in all work.

4. Provide verbal feedback at the end of each on-site review.

5. Write evidence-based reports which are of a high standard.

6. Ensure that reviews are conducted in an open and transparent manner.

7. Identify effective Health & Safety practice and document these in the reports.

8. Escalate risks and/or concerns, providing a written account of all relevant information and evidence.

9. Circulate reports directly to key stakeholders, including the Head of School and the Regional Team, in a timely manner.

Role Specific Capabilities

The role of the Independent Health & Safety Reviewer is expected to be rewarding and challenging in equal measure. The Independent Health & Safety Reviewer is expected to:

· support Cognita schools to evaluate and improve their practice

· be knowledgeable of contextual requirements and relevant Cognita regional policies;

· use evidence to evaluate;

· work in a transparent manner, adopting a ‘no surprises’ approach;

· balance reporting transparently again the published Health & Safety evaluation criteria and the distinctive context of the school;

· ask questions in a range of ways to enable schools to provide every opportunity to provide evidence;

· adopt active listening techniques;

· put people at ease in order to get the best from them;

· provide clear and evidence-based feedback so that there are no surprises in the written report;

· be open-minded in their approach, including not operating with a UK-centric approach;

· be prepared to challenge and deliver challenging messages; and

· write evaluatively and succinctly so that reports are relevant and useful for school improvement and proprietorial oversight.

Competency and Experience

· Chartered Member of IOSH (or equivalent).

· Educational sector experience, alongside an understanding of facilities-based compliance.

· An ability to understand cultural differences towards compliance, in a global setting.

· A strong communicator

· An interest or experience in understanding the general principles of international health and safety legislation
