Job summary

TSG FOOD PTE. LTD. is seeking an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration technician to maintain and troubleshoot walk-in cold rooms, blast freezers, chillers, and ice rooms. The role emphasizes hands-on repair, system fault diagnosis, and controller management in a fast-paced environment.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of hands-on HVAC/refrigeration experience, GCE O level, and must be able to work weekends/public holidays. Industrial refrigeration experience is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Strong refrigeration troubleshooting capability with hands-on repair skills.
• Experience with reciprocating compressors and multi-stage low-temperature systems.
• Electrical/controls troubleshooting including reading wiring diagrams and using a multimeter.
• Comfort with controllers (e.g., Eliwell/Dixell) and adjusting setpoints/alarms.
• Understanding of defrost types (hot gas and electric) and defrost cycles.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair walk-in cold rooms, freezers and blast freezer systems.
• Troubleshoot compressor faults, HP/LP trips, and oil-related issues.
• Read wiring diagrams, diagnose contractor/relay faults, and perform fault tracing with a multimeter.
• Handle and adjust refrigeration controllers to manage compressor, defrost and fans.
• Identify defrost failures and valve switching issues and ensure proper termination of defrost cycles.

Job Scope (Primary Responsibility)

• Chiller systems / cooling tunnels
• Ice room & process cooling

Main focus:

• Walk-in cold rooms / Freezers
• Blast freezer systems (defrost-critical)
• Chiller systems / cooling tunnels
• Ice room & process cooling

Secondary:

• Aircon systems (including Mitsubishi - basic to intermediate)

Critical Skills (MANDATORY)

1. Strong Refrigeration Troubleshooting (core requirement)

Candidate must be able to independently diagnose and fix:

• System not reaching temperature
• Intermittent cooling / unstable temperature
• Ice buildup / defrost failure
• High / Low pressure issues
• Refrigerant-related faults

Must be able to understand:

• Refrigeration cycle (practical, not theory only)
• Superheat / basic charging logic
• System behavior under load

Practical:

• Brazing & piping repair
• Leak detection tools
• Can work at height (no height phobia)

2. Compressor & System Fault Diagnosis

Hands-on experience with:

• Reciprocating compressors
• Multi-stage / low-temp systems

Must be able to troubleshoot:

• Compressor not starting
• Frequent tripping (HP/LP/overload)
• Abnormal noise / overheating
• Oil-related issues

3. Electrical & Control Troubleshooting (VERY IMPORTANT)

Must be able to:

• Read basic wiring diagrams
• Diagnose - Contractor/Relay faults, Power supply issues, Sensor faults
• Use multimeter confidently - Voltage, Continuity, Basic fault tracing

4. Controller Handling (e.g. Eliwell / Dixell)

Must be comfortable with controllers:

Required ability:

• Adjust setpoints
• Check alarms
• Identify fault conditions
• Trigger manual defrost - UP key ≥ 5 sec

Practical understanding:

• Controller affects - Compressor, Defrost, Fans

Required: Confident operations + troubleshooting logic
Not required: deep programming

5. Defrost System Understanding (IMPORTANT)

Must understand and troubleshoot:

• Hot gas defrost
• Electric heater defrost

Example system: Timed defrost cycles (e.g. every 4hrs, ~23mins)

Must be able to identify:

• Heater failure
• Valve not switching
• Defrost not terminating

Job Requirement:

• Minimum 3-5 years hands-on HVAC / Refrigeration
• Minimum GCE 'O' Level
• Cold room or industrial refrigeration experience is a MUST
