Job summary

A fast-growing start-up in Singapore is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead their HR function. You will establish HR policies and processes tailored to the business needs, oversee recruitment, foster employee relations, and ensure compliance with local regulations. The ideal candidate has over 5 years of HR experience, preferably in retail or start-up environments, and a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources. Proficiency in Mandarin is advantageous as the role involves communication with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.

Our mission is to design and deliver memorable products that connect with travelers and gift-givers worldwide. To support our growth, we are seeking an experienced HR Manager who can set up and lead our HR function, ensuring we attract, retain, and grow the right talent for our creative and retail-driven business.

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Strategy & Operations

  • Establish HR policies, processes, and structures tailored to a fast-growing start-up.
  • Partner with management to align people strategies with business objectives.

2. Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment, from job postings to onboarding, for retail store staff, e-commerce roles, designers, and corporate functions.
  • Build a strong employer brand to attract creative and retail talent passionate about souvenirs and lifestyle products.

3. Employee Relations & Culture Building

  • Foster strong employee relations by maintaining open communication channels, addressing grievances promptly, and ensuring a fair workplace.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives to foster a collaborative, innovative, and start-up-friendly culture.
  • Support conflict resolution and act as a trusted advisor to both employees and management.

4. Learning & Development

  • Implement performance management systems with KPIs suited for both retail staff and creative teams.
  • Identify training needs (e.g., customer service, retail operations, product knowledge, creative skills) and organize workshops.

5. Compensation, Benefits & Compliance

  • Oversee payroll, benefits, and leave administration in line with MOM regulations.
  • Conduct market benchmarking for competitive pay in retail and design-related roles.
  • Ensure compliance with the Singapore Employment Act and statutory requirements.

6. HR Administration

  • Manage employee records, contracts, and HR systems.
  • Support HR reporting for management decision-making.

7. Performance Management & Appraisal

  • Develop and implement KPI frameworks for all departments (retail, creative, e-commerce, and support teams).
  • Lead the annual appraisal process, ensuring timely completion, fairness, and alignment with company goals.
  • Guide managers in setting performance objectives and providing structured feedback.
  • Align appraisal outcomes with promotions, salary adjustments, and bonuses.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of HR experience, ideally in retail, FMCG, or start-up environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Singapore’s HR regulations and employee relations practices.
  • Proven experience in recruitment, KPI development, performance appraisals, and employee engagement.
  • Experience working in creative/brand-driven companies (preferred).
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial set-up.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin will be an advantage, as the role requires communication with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders and partners.
