Job summary

Berge Bulk is seeking a Commercial Operations lead in Singapore to own the Trading & Analytics Desk, study global market dynamics, and execute FFA requirements for the team. You will develop quantitative research, work with physical desks, and provide insights for risk-adjusted trading decisions.

The role emphasizes leadership of a small team and close collaboration with Chartering and Operations to ensure accurate risk systems and compliant trading practices in a fast-paced maritime market.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of quantitative research to enhance fundamental research, develop trading strategies, and build models.
• Provide weekly reports on changes in short-term supply of tonnage and cargo across vessel sizes.
• Perform technical analysis on FFA curves and give trading suggestions to support short- and mid-term decisions.
• Develop commercial and contractual proposals and explore alternative solutions.
• Take overall responsibility for Commercial Risk Management and risk reporting tailored to the audience.
• Produce daily risk management reports highlighting actions to limit exposure.
• Coordinate daily with Chartering and Operations to ensure risk system accuracy and updates.
• Ensure accounting reconciles with risk system in relevant areas.

Purpose of the Job

The principal function of the Commercial Operations group is to build a competitive, flexible freight portfolio. So, you’ll need to have your finger on the pulse and really understand the market globally for your specific area.

This role has ownership of and responsibility for the Trading & Analytics Desk where you will be responsible for examining and determining market dynamics to identify changing trends in the marketplace; while trading and executing FFA requirements for the Commercial Operations team.

Job Responsibilities:

Research Duties

• Lead development of Quantitative research to enhance fundamental research, develop trading strategies, and build robust quantitative models.
• Work closely with physical desks to provide them with weekly reports on changes in short term supply of tonnage and cargo across vessel sizes.
• Technical analysis on the FFA curves and provision of trading suggestions with analysis to support short and medium term FFA trading decisions.
• Develop alternative solutions and formulate commercial and contractual proposals.
• Overall responsibility for Commercial Risk Management
• Risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience.
• Conducting risk policy and compliance audits.
• Issue the daily risk management report highlighting actions to limit positional risks where Berge Bulk may have exposure
• Daily interaction with Chartering and Operations to ensure risk system is accurate and updated in all areas.
• Converse daily with accounting to ensure accounting reconciles with risk system where applicable.

Trading Duties

• Management of hedging physical freight exposures.
• Development and execution of FFA and Bunker Swaps trading strategy within approved limits.
• Running a profitable trading book.
• Managing relationships with trading counterparties and exchanges.
• Develop new trading counterparties.

Management Duties

• Leadership of a team of three consisting of a Data Analyst, Bunker Executive and Research Executive.
