Job description

Summary

Reporting to the Vice President (ANL), the Head of Operations (ANL) is responsible for leading and managing liner shipping operations in the Oceania region, ensuring alignment with company strategy and cost objectives while maintaining safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. The role encompasses oversight across operational execution, system processes, commercial strategy, stakeholder engagement, and strategic development.

Responsibilities:

  • Line Operations: Implement liner strategies, ensure cost and schedule efficiency, manage compliance, and support legal investigations.
  • Operational & Systems: Oversee day-to-day operations with a focus on safety, cost control (OPEX), service provider management, and data reporting. Represent the company in operational forums and during emergencies.
  • Commercial: Align vessel scheduling with strategic goals, manage voyage costs, support commercial collaboration, and assess opportunities for business improvement and network optimisation.
  • Management: Lead and mentor team members, conduct stakeholder engagement, manage recruitment, and ensure team alignment with corporate values.
  • Strategic Planning: Monitor regional shipping trends, identify new business and service opportunities, assess vendors, and propose strategic investments.
  • Subsidiary Integration: Oversee system and process alignment across subsidiaries, conduct gap analyses, manage SOPs/SLAs, and lead training and performance tracking.

Requirements:

  • Master's Class 1 or relevant tertiary qualifications in Nautical or Business Studies
  • 10+ years’ experience in shipping across operations, logistics, commercial, and finance
  • Sea-going and terminal operations experience
  • Strong regulatory knowledge in Australian shipping
  • Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and handle high-pressure situations
