Job description

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) / Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing the overall nursing operations in the nursing home, ensuring high-quality residential care, regulatory compliance, and efficient staff management. This leadership role involves strategic planning, policy implementation, staff supervision, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to provide excellent resident-centered care.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Management
  • Develop, implement and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, and best practices to maintain high standards of care.
  • Ensure compliance with MOH (Ministry of Health), AIC (Agency for Integrated Care) and other relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff, ensuring efficient and effective nursing care services.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, continuous learning, and professional development among the nursing team.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes to enhance healthcare services in the nursing home.
2. Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure that nursing care services comply with Singapore's healthcare regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., MOH licensing, Healthcare Services Act (HCSA), National Nursing Standards).
  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance residents' safety and service excellence.
  • Monitor infection control measures, medication management, fall prevention and clinical procedures to maintain high care standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
3. Staff Development & Training
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Enrolled Nurses (ENs), Nursing Aides and Healthcare Assistants.
  • Implement continuing education programs and professional development opportunities for nursing staff.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and proper skill mix to meet residents' needs.
4. Resident & Family Engagement
  • Ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centered care tailored to their individual needs.
  • Address residents' concerns and grievances in a timely and professional manner.
  • Communicate effectively with residents' families, providing updates and guidance on care plans.
5. Budget & Resource Management
  • Manage the nursing department’s budget, including manpower, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Optimize resource allocation while ensuring cost-effective care delivery.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations within the nursing home.
6. Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including MOH, AIC, HCSA, and Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) guidelines.
  • Implement risk management strategies to prevent adverse events and maintain a safe environment for residents and staff.
  • Stay updated on healthcare policies and adapt nursing home operations accordingly.
Job Requirements:
  • Education: Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent; a Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Management is a plus.
  • License: Registered Nurse with the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB).
  • Experience: At least 10 years of nursing experience, with a minimum of 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial role, preferably in a nursing home or eldercare setting.
  • Skills:Strong leadership and team management skills
