Job description

As a Head of Department (Special Needs Education), you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments within the assigned level/domain/track.

  • Develop and tailor instructional programmes to meet diverse learning needs; monitor student progress in collaboration with families and allied professionals.

  • Design and oversee programmes that promote student character development and social-emotional wellbeing.

  • Plan and facilitate professional development for staff and foster professional learning communities.

  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance evaluations to teaching staff.

  • Lead inter-departmental teams in the planning and execution of key school-wide initiatives and strategic projects.

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with families, community organisations, and relevant stakeholders.

  • Oversee communication strategies, including the preparation of relevant materials to support stakeholder engagement.

  • Manage departmental work plans, resources, and budgets, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision and strategic priorities.

  • Support recruitment, staff induction, and participation in broader organisation-wide programmes or duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or other relevant qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 years in a Senior Teacher role.

  • Experience working with persons with disabilities is an added advantage.
