About the role

SPH Media is seeking a Head of Cloud Platform to lead our high-impact Platform Engineering team. This team plays a pivotal role in building and managing the developer platform that empowers product and application engineering teams to build and deliver software securely, cost-effectively, and reliably.As the owner of our AWS and GCP platforms—serving flagship products such as The Straits Times—you will drive the evolution of SPH Media’s cloud architecture, ensure excellence in cost management and security, and guide teams toward cloud-native best practices. In this role, you will:

• Lead and scale the Cloud Platform team, setting strategic direction and operational excellence across cloud infrastructure, tools, and DevSecOps practices.
  
• Design, build, and evolve a developer platform that enables product teams to deliver features securely, cost-effectively, and reliably.
  
• Own the architecture, operations, and governance of SPH Media’s AWS and GCP platforms, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance across the board.
  
• Drive and provide cloud cost optimization capabilities within the various cloud platforms, provide visibility, ensure accountability, and define best practices in resource utilization.
  
• Define and enforce cloud security guardrails, embedding them into the developer platform to uphold security and compliance without slowing teams down.
  
• Integrate performance engineering tools and capabilities—such as load and stress testing—into the platform to ensure applications meet their performance targets.
  
• Build and manage platform-level observability tooling, enabling teams to monitor, debug, and improve their applications with high-quality telemetry (e.g. logging, tracing, metrics).
  
• Manage and continuously improve developer tooling, including GitHub and Terraform Cloud, as part of a seamless CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
  
• Embed DevSecOps practices into the platform through automation, shared services, and reusable security/compliance patterns, allowing teams to focus on delivering value without compromising standards.
  

You May Be a Good Fit If You Have:

• 10+ years of experience in software or platform engineering, with 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
  
• Deep experience with AWS, with bonus points for GCP or multi-cloud environments.
  
• Proven track record of building internal platforms that enable developer productivity, scalability, and security.
  
• Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure, cost management (FinOps), and platform governance.
  
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform), CI/CD tools, and developer workflow automation.
  
• Familiarity with performance testing frameworks and modern observability stacks (e.g. OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus).
  
• Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles and experience operationalizing them across multiple product teams.
  
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with a proven ability to align technical execution with business goals.
