Job description

Apex Harmony Lodge is a 210-bed nursing home focused on providing dedicated care for individuals with dementia. The Head of Clinical Services (HCS) plays a crucial role in transforming the perception of dementia as a unique and valuable phase of life. The HCS offers visionary leadership in transforming integrated, person-centred care to empower persons with dementia (PWDs). This role requires compassion, innovation, and the application of evidence-based frameworks to enhance the lives of PWDs effectively. Reporting to the CEO, the HCS will need to work closely with departments across corporate support, nursing, and clinical services. Direct reports include psychologists, social workers, physio/exercise therapists, occupational therapists, and the resident engagement coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff in the multiple clinical departments
  • Provide guidance in regular rounds, assessments, behavioral interventions, and crisis management.
  • Lead research initiatives, including conceptualization, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain research partnerships to share findings and best practices.
  • Ensure quality of care for residents and nurture relationships with next of kin.
  • Develop and uphold social work practice standards, and quality outcomes.
  • Enhance work processes and ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Promote healthy physical, psycho, and social environments that encourage engagement, cognitive stimulation, social interaction, and emotional well-being.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Allied Health, Gerontology, Dementia Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in healthcare. Understanding of person-centred care, evidence-based practice, and research methodology.
  • Experience in eldercare, acute care hospital, senior day care centres, and/or nursing homes.
  • Proficient in the techniques of cognitive stimulation to promote cognitive engagement.
  • Familiarity with Means Testing, MediFund, and ILTC subsidy schemes, NCSS and SASW frameworks.
