Summary
Reporting to the General Counsel (APAC), the Head of Claims and Insurance will lead and manage all aspects of marine insurance, cargo claims, and vessel-related claims in the APAC region. The incumbent will oversee the Hull & Machinery (H&M), crew, cargo, and third-party liability claims, ensuring efficient claims handling, risk mitigation, and recovery optimization in coordination and in collaboration with our CMA CGM head office.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing large-scale casualties, legal disputes, and insurance recoveries while providing strategic guidance to stakeholders.
Responsibilities
• Manage marine claims related to Hull & Machinery (H&M), P&I, crew, and major vessel casualties (e.g., fire, salvage, grounding)
• Conduct investigations, determine liability, and drive recovery strategies with insurers and third parties
• Oversee cargo claims and litigation across Asia, ensuring minimal operational impact while protecting commercial interests
• Lead and develop the regional Claims & Insurance team, aligning operations with global standards and business goals
• Provide legal and operational advice on risk management, contractual clauses, and non-standard claim scenarios
• Identify process improvements and close knowledge gaps to reduce legal and financial exposure
Requirements
• Strong background in marine claims (H&M, P&I, cargo), with at least 10 years of experience in marine insurance, cargo claims, and hull & machinery claims (shipowners, P&I Clubs, or maritime law firms)
• Proven leadership and negotiation skills
• Deep knowledge of maritime law, insurance practices, and regional litigation processes
• A strategic, resilient, and solutions-driven professional with excellent stakeholder management
• Occasional business travel may be required
