Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced, commercially strategic, and execution-focused Head of Business Development to lead merchant acquisition, partnership strategy, and the commercial growth of Atome Singapore. This role carries significant responsibility for shaping how Atome scales its merchant network, loyalty ecosystem, and payment acceptance footprint.

You will lead a team, serve as a senior individual contributor, and own commercial strategies across merchant lifecycle management and partnership innovation.

This role reports directly to the General Manager, Singapore, and works cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Operations, Legal, and Regional leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Merchant Acquisition & Network Expansion

  • Lead acquisition of strategic merchants
  • Act as a senior dealmaker and closer, representing Atome in high-stake negotiations with C-level stakeholders.
  • Own the pipeline and deliver on clear acquisition targets tied to GMV, MDR, and brand impact.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Manage, develop, and scale a team of Business Development Managers focused on acquisition and growth.
  • Set clear KPIs, provide coaching, and lead performance reviews.
  • Foster a high-performing, commercially-minded team culture.

Partnerships & Ecosystem Development

  • Drive Atome+ loyalty program partnerships to enhance value propositions for both merchants and consumers.
  • Build strategic alliances with ecosystem players (banks, payment networks, fintech platforms) to strengthen Atome’s market presence.
  • Explore and secure cross-industry collaborations that enhance brand and user engagement.

Payment Network & Acceptance Strategy

  • Develop and execute strategies to expand Atome’s acceptance across payment modalities: QR, mobile POS, online, omni-channel.
  • Champion initiatives to position Atome as a credible alternative payment method alongside credit cards and e-wallets.
  • Lead commercial discussions with payment infrastructure partners, POS vendors, and other enablers.

Market Strategy & Commercial Leadership

  • Work with the General Manager to define and execute Singapore’s merchant and partnership strategy aligned to OKRs.
  • Contribute to competitive analysis, market insights, and identification of new growth opportunities.
  • Serve as a commercial thought partner to local and regional leadership.

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Build robust sales operations processes, including pipeline management, forecasting, CRM usage, and performance reporting.
  • Collaborate with legal, finance, and operations to streamline merchant onboarding, contracting, and compliance.
  • Advocate for merchant needs internally to shape product roadmaps and operational priorities.

Key Success Metrics

  • Achievement of merchant acquisition and revenue OKRs (GMV, MDR, merchant count).
  • Growth in partner adoption of Atome+ and other value-added services.
  • Expansion of payment acceptance points across Singapore.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, or commercial leadership within fintech, payments, retail, loyalty, or financial services.
  • Proven track record of winning and managing high-profile merchant relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and driving commercial outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of Singapore’s retail, payments, and fintech ecosystems.
  • Negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Data-driven with strong commercial and operational acumen.
