About Our Client

Our client is a leading chemical manufacturing company with a turnover of more than 10,000 Cr. They are seeking a Head of Freight Procurement to lead the procurement of freight for primary, secondary, inwards, and EXIM movement of goods.

Job Description

The role reports to the VP - Procurement and will be responsible for:

  1. Developing the procurement strategy for the freight vertical aligned with the organization’s overall procurement strategy.
  2. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders such as finance, operations, and legal to understand requirements and align procurement activities.
  3. Gaining insights into market trends, supplier capabilities, pricing dynamics, and market forces impacting the category.
  4. Evaluating existing and potential suppliers based on quality, delivery, pricing, financial stability, and capacity.
  5. Leading negotiations for freight costs and maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers, including contract negotiations and performance management.
  6. Providing leadership to the procurement team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, preferably in complex distribution models.
  • Experience in FMCG companies, especially in sectors like consumer goods, paints, cements, or related industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree with an MBA or Master’s degree.
  • Deep understanding of freight mechanisms, routes, lanes, and working within ecosystems involving multiple SKUs.
