Chartering & Vessel Management
- Identify and assess potential vessel acquisitions, particularly older tonnage, by analyzing shipbroker intelligence, market listings, and competitor activity.
- Evaluate vessels’ operational readiness, trading history, classification, and technical condition, including any mechanical or structural concerns.
- Lead negotiations for charter agreements (e.g., NYPE, Baltime), including rate structures, off-hire clauses, speed warranties, and fuel terms, adjusted for past vessel performance.
- Develop vessel shortlists aligned with trade route needs, considering specifications such as draft limitations, cargo capacity, and reefer plug availability, with support from shipping indices.
- Finalize charter arrangements with cost transparency, incorporating proforma budgeting for bunkers, port fees, hull cleaning, and other relevant components.
- Manage end-to-end vessel sale and purchase processes using recognized documentation (e.g., Norwegian Saleform), including valuation, negotiation, and closing.
- Coordinate internal and third-party technical inspections to uncover latent risks and recommend required refurbishments or dockyard interventions.
- Strategize vessel disposals and decommissioning based on lifecycle cost analysis, route shifts, or market dynamics, including scrap value estimation.
- Track chartered vessel redelivery schedules, issuing notices where necessary for early termination due to suboptimal performance.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure vessel operations meet international maritime standards such as MARPOL (pollution prevention) and SOLAS (safety at sea), including vessel retrofit evaluations.
- Monitor developments in environmental legislation and ship recycling protocols to inform asset retirement plans.
- Mitigate legal risks by maintaining thorough documentation of vessel performance to support potential re-charter disputes or claims.
Requirements:
- Bachelors or master’s degree in Shipping business, supply chain management, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in procurement or a shipping related field, with a track record of driving process improvements and cost savings.
