This role is a management and leadership position reporting to the Global Epidemiology Vaccines Head. It is responsible for providing strategic leadership in epidemiology at the above-asset level and leading a team of epidemiologists in Asia who collaborate across the matrix to support key functions, including clinical sciences, development, regulatory, and safety. The role involves the development and implementation of epidemiological studies and measurement strategies to support investigational assets and marketed products in Asia.

Key Responsibilities

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities as follows:

  • Contribute significantly to the development of epidemiological strategies for vaccines in Asia and the implementation of research plans to achieve those strategies.

  • Collaborate effectively with the clinical development team in Asia to provide insights into disease occurrence, disease understanding, risk management plans, and safety issues through literature reviews and/or new epidemiological studies.

  • Work with global colleagues to leverage existing epidemiological data to support development decisions related to Asia.

  • Manage and implement epidemiological activities in Asia according to strategy and operational plans, including study design, protocol development, data collection, analysis, and scientific writing for publications.

  • Take primary responsibility for study design and data collection for epidemiological studies in Asia, in collaboration with global epidemiology colleagues.

  • Author final reports summarizing study results, co-author manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, and present findings at national and international scientific and public health meetings.

  • Represent the organization effectively to external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities (e.g., PMDA, CDE) and key scientific opinion leaders.

  • Plan and coordinate dissemination of epidemiological data in consultation with internal partners and external stakeholders.

  • Contribute to cross-functional activities as an Asia epidemiology representative, including task forces, working groups, and development of policies and guidance related to epidemiology activities.

  • Partner with external experts in Asia to conduct epidemiological studies and manage external collaborations.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Academic training (doctoral or clinical degree with advanced epidemiology training) combined with practical experience in vaccine epidemiology, infectious diseases, and Real-World Evidence studies, preferably in a vaccine development setting.

  • Demonstrated expertise in epidemiological study design, quantitative analytical methods, statistical tools, and critical appraisal of epidemiological data, with the ability to interpret and communicate scientific findings effectively.

  • Proven experience leading pharmaco-epidemiological research programs, developing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, negotiating research plans, and contributing to regulatory submissions.

  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment in Asia, including post-marketing commitments for safety and effectiveness studies, and familiarity with global vaccine development frameworks.

  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and prioritization skills; resourcefulness in resolving complex issues; and diplomacy with cross-cultural sensitivity for effective teamwork in a matrix environment.

Preferred Qualifications

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience interacting with regulatory authorities in Asia.

  • Experience conducting epidemiological studies in Asia.
