Job description

The Global Gas Market Analysts are part of the Cross Commodities Trading Team, delivering advanced analytics for the European Gas and LNG trading desks within the group, based in London. They are responsible for providing high-quality insights into the products markets across the natural gas spectrum.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Provide frontline support for the Singapore traders with market analysis and insights.
  2. Build and maintain tools and dashboards to assist traders in decision-making (Stack Models, Python-based forecasts, etc.).
  3. Develop supply and demand models and analyze these balances per country/region in the Asia-Pacific region by selecting the most relevant data sources.
  4. Generate trade ideas and develop systematic trading strategies for the natural gas market.
  5. Support origination activities and investment decisions.
  6. Identify appropriate models and develop the code or packages to execute them.
  7. Evaluate the validity of models from both scientific and business perspectives.
  8. Contribute to team-wide fundamental analytics.
  9. Articulate insights and recommendations based on model outputs to key stakeholders.
  10. Communicate technical jargon in plain English to colleagues.
  11. Prepare reports and analysis for internal publication.
  12. Maintain and improve the team's IT capabilities and contribute to the implementation of AMP vNext.
Profile / Key Skills:

The candidate must have a strong background in quantitative skills such as statistics, mathematics, advanced computing, and machine learning.

Required expertise includes (but is not limited to):

  • Fundamental Knowledge: Strong understanding of the European natural gas and global LNG markets.
  • Natural Gas Modelling: Advanced experience with various forms of natural gas modelling such as Stack, Bid Offer, and Interconnector models.
  • Statistics / Mathematics: Skills in data quality analysis, data identification, hypothesis testing, and distribution/probability theory.
  • Data Science: Experience in time series analysis, object-oriented programming, business intelligence, embedded systems (Linux), databases, and Python programming.
