Job description

Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our Singapore geotechnics team provides sound geotechnical consulting engineering services, with a strong command of local design regulations and a commitment to communicating design ideas and construction procedures clearly to both internal and external audiences at all levels.

The Opportunity
  • You will work under minimal supervision within a defined area of responsibility, which may include being responsible for specific parts of an external design project.
  • You will provide detailed design work across a broad range of projects within geotechnical engineering, including interpretation of geotechnical parameters from site data, foundations design and retaining structures design.
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of tender submissions and presentations, and preparing project reports summarising key assumptions, design methodologies, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Liaising with other groups within the geography and more broadly across the region, providing particular expertise on geotechnical engineering as appropriate, whilst effectively managing the time, quality and performance of allocated tasks.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?
  • You hold a recognised relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a similar area (a Master's degree specialised in Geotechnical Engineering is advantageous), with a minimum of 5 years' relevant industry experience in Geotechnical Engineering within a consulting business environment.
  • You hold membership of a relevant professional institution or have significant credit towards eligibility for membership, alongside a proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and guidelines — including Arup's related OH&S procedures.
  • You demonstrate sound knowledge of basic geotechnical principles, with developing skills in management and/or a design, technical or professional specialisation, and you actively recognise best practices and promote their wider use throughout the team.
  • You build rapport and networks with external and internal parties, gain a good understanding of client needs and ensure they are met, and communicate openly — asking questions, actively listening and choosing the best communication method to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • You work well with people at all levels, involve all members of the team in delivering objectives, are self-aware and take responsibility for your own actions, and are proactive in sharing knowledge to improve the operation of the team.
