Job description

We are partnering with a global Maritime Transportation company to recruit a strategic and commercially minded General Manager This senior role offers the opportunity to lead global expansion, manage complex fleets (including chemical tankers and LPG vessels), and drive operational excellence in compliance, safety, and digital transformation.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy & Business Development

  • Develop and implement the company's mid-to-long-term strategy for global ship management, covering technical management, crewing, and newbuilding supervision.
  • Strengthen the company’s technical, compliance, and operational capabilities to meet international oil company (IOC) inspection standards
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with key clients, regularly visiting to understand their needs and deliver customized ship management solutions.
  • Track industry trends (e.g., green shipping, digital transformation) and drive initiatives for decarbonization and digital ship management.

2. Safe Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure ship management fully complies with IMO regulations, major conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL), ISO/ISM standards, and customer requirements.
  • Lead daily safety and operational management, coordinating cross-functional teams to meet KPIs such as safety performance, schedule reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Optimize management systems to reduce operational costs (fuel efficiency, maintenance) and enhance fleet safety and performance.
  • Manage audits, port state controls, and operational incidents to maintain a record of zero major deficiencies.

3. Team Development & External Partnerships

  • Build a culture grounded in safety, responsibility, and collaboration; benchmark against top global ship managers to refine management systems.
  • Lead cross-functional teams (technical, marine, engineering, crewing), enhancing technical, commercial negotiation, and digital management skills.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with shipyards, ports, maritime authorities, and insurers to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and expand customer base.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in maritime disciplines (Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Maritime Management). MBA/EMBA preferred.
  • 8+ years in ship management, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role at an international ship management firm.
  • Strong background in third-party ship management (technical, crewing, vessel operations), with experience managing chemical tankers or gas carriers.
  • Familiar with IOC inspection frameworks and standards (e.g., TMSA, SIRE 2.0).
  • Strategic thinking to shape global business plans and navigate shipping market cycles.
  • Compliance leadership with deep understanding of IMO, MLC, and other international regulations.
  • Cross-cultural management skills for leading diverse teams across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ship management software, data analysis tools, and digital process optimization is a plus
