Job Purpose

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of the Association. The GM ensures the effective execution of the Board’s directives and leads all facets of the Association, including budgeting, programs, services, governance, and stakeholder engagement. The role demands a high level of accountability and leadership to ensure synergy across all sport disciplines and operational functions.

Key Responsibilities

The GM will oversee all critical areas of the organization, including:

1. Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the Association’s mission and long-term vision.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, sponsors, government agencies, international partners, and Board members.
  • Oversee the Association’s marketing and branding plans tailored to the local and international market landscape.
  • Identify new business opportunities to generate income through courses, programs, sponsorships, fundraising and potential grants.

2. Operational Management & Administration

  • Lead the day-to-day management of all Association operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of operational procedures and principles to ensure consistency and documentation.
  • Oversee event management for all Association events, including pre-event planning and post-event activities.
  • Ensure the seamless execution of national championships, talent development programs, and high-performance initiatives.

3. Human Resource & Team Development

  • In coordination with Department Heads, set standards for recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and timely evaluation of the Association’s staff.
  • Foster a positive work culture, emphasizing teamwork, professional development, and accountability.
  • Implement performance review systems and oversee staff compensation and benefits within budgetary guidelines.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team to achieve organizational goals.

4. Financial Management & Sustainability

  • Manage financial planning, including budget formulation, cost control, and variance reporting.
  • Analyse financial statements, manage cash flow, and establish controls to safeguard funds.
  • Ensure adherence to acceptable accounting procedures and coordinate with the Treasurer on financial oversight.
  • Identify revenue growth opportunities and ensure financial sustainability through sponsorships, donations, grants, and commercial initiatives.

5. Policies, Compliance, & Governance

  • Implement general policies and oversee their administration and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with governance and regulatory frameworks as mandated by SportSG and MCCY.
  • Develop, maintain, and administer a sound organizational plan, initiating improvements as necessary.

6. Other Responsibilities

  • Execute additional duties as assigned by the Board to support the Association’s growth and success.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in sports management or a related field.
  • Strong business acumen with expertise in financial management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, sponsorship acquisition, and event management.
  • Passion for athletics with an understanding of athlete development, coach education, and high-performance sports.
