Job description

Key Responsibilities

  1. Futures Trading Execution

    • Execute copper and cobalt futures trades on platforms such as LME, SHFE, and CME, including pricing, order placement, hedging, and position management, ensuring efficient execution aligned with strategic goals.

    • Optimize trade timing based on market conditions and client needs, executing arbitrage, hedging, and speculative trades.

  2. Market Analysis and Opportunity Identification

    • Conduct in-depth analysis of factors influencing copper and cobalt prices:

      • Supply and Demand Fundamentals: Monitor global copper and cobalt mine production, inventory levels, and downstream demand (e.g., electric vehicles, batteries, industrial sectors).

      • Macroeconomic Liquidity and USD Trends: Track global economic indicators (e.g., PMI, GDP), interest rates, and USD exchange rate fluctuations.

      • Speculative Forces: Analyze futures market positions, speculative behavior, and market sentiment.

      • Long-Term Structural Trends: Evaluate the long-term impact of electric vehicles, batteries, and green energy on copper and cobalt demand.

    • Provide daily market analysis reports, identifying trading opportunities and supporting team decision-making.

  3. Risk Management

    • Monitor real-time copper and cobalt price movements, freight costs, and exchange rate fluctuations, implementing hedging strategies to mitigate market and financial risks.

    • Maintain accurate position records, ensuring compliance with company risk management policies and Singapore regulatory requirements (e.g., MAS regulations).

  4. Client and Transaction Support

    • Communicate with clients to understand trading needs, assist with pricing, hedging, and contract execution, and provide market insights.

    • Coordinate with exchanges, clearinghouses, and brokers to ensure smooth transaction settlement processes.

  5. Industry Information Collection

    • Gather and analyze domestic and international copper and cobalt production, trading, and industry developments (e.g., cobalt mining policies in the Congo, copper mine strikes in Chile).

    • Provide market forecasts and risk alerts to optimize trading strategies.

  6. Team Collaboration

    • Collaborate with the trading manager and team members to execute the company’s overall trading plan.

    • Support cross-departmental coordination (e.g., logistics, finance) to ensure efficient transaction processes.

  7. Other Duties

    • Complete tasks assigned by superiors, such as ad-hoc market analysis or trading optimization projects.

    • Ensure trading activities comply with Singapore and international futures trading regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of futures trading experience, with familiarity in copper, cobalt, or non-ferrous metals markets and knowledge of LME, SHFE, and similar platforms.

  • Strong market analysis skills, with expertise in supply and demand, macroeconomic trends, speculative forces, and structural trends; proficiency in Excel, Bloomberg, or Python is a plus.

  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Mandarin or other Asian languages (e.g., Indonesian) is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with Singapore’s financial markets and futures trading regulations, with strong learning and adaptability skills.

  • Keen market insight, a spirit of exploration, and the ability to execute effectively in high-pressure environments.
