Job Title: Funds Counsel (Japanese Language Proficiency)

Location: Hong Kong or Singapore

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Funds Counsel with Japanese language proficiency to join our client's esteemed funds team. You will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and support on a wide range of investment funds matters, including fund formation, structuring, and regulatory compliance. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base, including leading financial institutions, asset managers, onshore law firms, and multinational corporations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on the formation, structuring, and operation of investment funds, including private equity, hedge funds, and mutual funds.
  • Draft and review fund documentation, including offering memoranda, subscription agreements, and partnership agreements.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory compliance and liaise with regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Assist clients with fund launches, restructurings, and ongoing fund management issues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the firm's global network to deliver seamless and integrated legal services.
  • Conduct legal research and stay abreast of developments in investment funds law and regulations.
  • Utilise Japanese language skills to support Japanese-speaking clients and facilitate cross-border transactions.
  • Give mentoring and training support in nurturing junior talent in the team.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and actively participate in business development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified to practice law in a common law jurisdiction (e.g., England & Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Canada).
  • Minimum of 8 years' post-qualification experience in investment funds law, preferably with a leading international or offshore law firm; qualified bengoshi who have experienced work or studies overseas are also welcome to apply.
  • Fluency in Japanese, both written and spoken, is essential.
  • Strong network of connections within the funds industry and domestic and onshore international law firm sector in Japan.
  • Excellent business development and client relationship development skills.
  • Strong technical skills and a thorough understanding of investment funds structures and regulations.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • High level of professionalism and commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
