Fundamental Research Group, Associate, Singapore

Role summary: The Fundamental Research Group (FRG) partners closely with investors to enhance the depth and quality of investment research. The FRG Associate role demands a high degree of ownership, accountability, and responsiveness to the evolving needs of investment group stakeholders. This role is about bringing a strong foundation in financial analysis, research, and emerging technologies, while contributing reliably and efficiently to research projects. An FRG Associate works independently on assigned projects, ensures accuracy and clarity in deliverables, and supports investment professionals by providing timely, well‑structured information.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions:

Technical Skills & Financial Acumen: Independence—Applies a strong foundation in financial modeling, valuation and analysis across a wide variety of business scenarios, contributing to complex research projects and workflows. Viewed as a reliable partner who enhances research efficiency and insight through technical fluency across a range of data platforms. Integrates industry context into analyses.

Communication & Influence: Clear, contextual communication—Communicates concise and structured research findings, tailored to the audience and research objectives. Frames arguments in terms of risk/reward and investment impacts. Delivers clear, fact‑based investment write‑ups that go beyond findings to highlight implications. Proactively asks clarifying questions and adjusts communication based on feedback. Demonstrates confidence in summarizing research in meetings or written formats.

Research Quality & Insight: Focus on fundamentals and synthesis—Gathers, analyzes and distills data with precision and forms independent insights. Utilizes multiple data sources to add depth to traditional research and synthesizes information into logical narratives that highlight drivers of performance. Identifies key industry or macro trends and connects them to company‑level fundamentals. Evaluates risk/reward and flags potential inflection points. Anticipates what matters and why, proactively surfaces key findings and asks thoughtful questions.

Efficiency & Proactiveness: Reliable, engaged execution—Delivers high‑quality work quickly and accurately with minimal oversight. Prioritizes across competing demands, regularly adjusting scope and focus based on impact. Manages time and workload independently across stakeholders and projects. Anticipates needs, flags roadblocks early, and adjusts priorities as needed. Identifies ways to simplify or streamline recurring workflows. Proactively suggests the next steps and maintains momentum across research efforts.

Encourages open dialogue, brainstorms regularly with peers, and contributes to a shared sense of ownership.

Data Fluency: FRG Associates are expected to develop and apply new and evolving data skills that enhance the quality and impact of their research, such as: Using AI and LLMs to accelerate insight generation and reduce manual tasks. Automating recurring workflows, including financial models and data pulls. Building programming capabilities in tools like Python and SQL. Dynamically connecting internal and external data sources into integrated workflows. Visualizing research outputs through dynamic tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

Skills/Qualifications:

Strong financial acumen, including a solid understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, valuation techniques, and macroeconomic concepts, and applies this knowledge to investment research. Intellectual curiosity and strong analytical skills in areas of moderate complexity, dealing with complex problems related to financial markets, industries, and emerging trends. Expertise in traditional investment research tools, such as Excel and market data services, such as AlphaSense, CapIQ and FactSet. Effective written and oral communication skills with a diverse group of associates and stakeholders, conveying ideas and insights clearly and tailoring messages to the audience. Ability to collaborate and develop relationships to enable effective completion of business objectives. Effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Works independently on projects, asking pertinent questions and using judgment to identify appropriate resources and determine the right analytical frameworks. 2‑5 years of relevant research experience in financial services. Fluency in Chinese (written and spoken), to address to research and business needs.

Compensation and benefits:

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital’s annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings. Temporary positions in the United States are excluded from the above mentioned compensation and benefit plans.
