Job summary

SBS Transit Limited is seeking a technically strong software engineer to design, develop, enhance and support enterprise applications powering SBS Transit’s business and operations. You will work with business users, IT, data and security teams to deliver secure, scalable software.

The role emphasizes cloud, DevOps, automation and responsible AI-assisted engineering, with a focus on code quality and governance. You will enable modernization and continuous improvement across enterprise platforms.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of enterprise software development experience.
• Experience leading software design, application modernization or enterprise development initiatives.
• Experience mentoring junior developers and driving engineering best practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms, DevOps, enterprise integrations and modern software engineering practices is preferred.

Job description

The role is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, integrating and supporting enterprise applications that enable SBS Transit’s business and operational systems. The role works closely with business users, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data teams, vendors and project teams to deliver reliable, secure and scalable software solutions across enterprise platforms. The role requires a technically strong individual with hands‑on software engineering capability who is passionate about application development, modern software engineering practices, cloud technologies, DevOps, automation and continuous improvement.

Primary Objectives of Position:

• Develop and maintain secure, reliable and scalable enterprise applications supporting SBS Transit’s business operations.

• Deliver high-quality software solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer experience.

• Support application modernisation, cloud adoption, enterprise integration and DevOps initiatives.

• Improve software quality through engineering best practices, automation and continuous improvement.

• Leverage modern productivity and AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve development efficiency while maintaining sound engineering judgement and code quality.

• Support troubleshooting, issue resolution, platform enablement and technical governance activities.

Major Responsibilities

Software Development:

• Design, develop, test and maintain enterprise applications using .NET, Java and modern web technologies.

• Build secure, scalable and maintainable applications following software engineering best practices.

• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, reusable services and enterprise integrations.

• Optimise and maintain SQL databases including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL

• Produce clean, maintainable and well-documented code supported by unit testing, code reviews and automated testing.

Cloud, DevOps and Modernisation:

• Support application modernisation through cloud migration, application enhancement and technology upgrades.

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or equivalent DevOps platforms.

• Develop automation scripts and reusable engineering components to improve software delivery.

• Support containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes where applicable.

• Apply DevSecOps and secure software engineering practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

Application Support and Engineering Excellence:

• Troubleshoot application, integration and production issues through debugging and root cause analysis.

• Monitor and improve application performance, reliability and maintainability.

• Provides application support and works to prevent the recurrence of issues.

Innovation and Responsible AI-Assisted Engineering:

• Participate in Proof-of-Concepts (POCs), technical evaluations and adoption of emerging technologies.

• Use AI-assisted engineering and productivity tools responsibly to improve software development, testing, debugging, documentation and technical analysis while maintaining ownership of engineering decisions, code quality and security.

• Contributes to the continuous improvement of engineering practices, tooling and reusable components

Quality, Security and Testing:

• Applies DevSecOps and secure software engineering practices throughout the software development life cycle.

• Embeds automated testing, code quality and security checks into the delivery pipeline.

• Ensures applications meet enterprise architecture, security and operational standards.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

• Work closely with business users, project teams, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data teams and vendors to deliver effective technical solutions.

• Participate in requirements gathering, solution design and technical discussions.

• Present technical ideas, implementation approaches and solution recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.

Documentation and Continuous Improvement:

• Prepares technical documentation, architecture diagrams and implementation guides.

• Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering practices, business processes and user experience.

• Shares knowledge and engineering best practices across the team.

Minimum Education / Qualifications:

• Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise software development and technical solution implementation.

• Experience leading software design, application modernisation or enterprise development initiatives.

• Experience mentoring junior developers and driving engineering best practices.

• Experience with cloud platforms, DevOps, enterprise integrations and modern software engineering practices is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

• Strong software development skills using .NET, C#, Java, Python, JavaScript or equivalent programming languages.

• Experience with modern web frameworks such as React, Blazor or equivalent.

• Good understanding of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL or equivalent relational databases.

• Good understanding of RESTful APIs, enterprise integrations and API based development.

• Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD, Git, DevOps and Agile software development practices.

• Familiarity with AWS, Microsoft Azure or equivalent cloud platforms.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts is an advantage.

• Good understanding of secure software development practices, automated testing and code quality.

• Strong troubleshooting, debugging and root cause analysis capability.

• Proficient in using modern productivity and AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve software development, testing, documentation and technical analysis while applying sound engineering judgement.

• Strong analytical, ownership and communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
