Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain a secure, scalable experiment sandbox environment for rapid solution prototyping across the full technology stack
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and fellow engineers to co-create POCs and validate technical concepts in compressed development cycles
  • Drive modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, test automation, containerisation, and microservices architecture within the experimental environment
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on engineering approaches, frameworks, and toolchains to accelerate innovation and prototype development
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their applicability to agency needs through quick experiments and proof-of-concept implementations
  • Document reusable components, reference architectures, and best practices for broader adoption across product teams and the wider organisation
  • Partner with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to ensure sandbox compliance with governance and risk policies whilst maintaining development agility
  • Track and report on experiment outcomes, including time-to-prototype, performance, and scalability assessments to inform future technical decisions
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 1-3 years of software engineering experience, preferably in agile, product-focused environments
  • Strong hands-on experience in modern full-stack development (e.g., Node.js, Python, React, or similar)
  • Proficiency with cloud-native platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform), container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and DevOps toolchains (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver functional POCs in short timeframes and validate their feasibility
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience with experimentation frameworks, innovation labs, or government tech environments is a plus
  • Familiarity with AI development (preferred)
  • A strong drive for continuous learning and self-discovery
  • Openness to new ideas and approaches
  • Possess a proactive attitude and strong sense of ownership in driving initiatives forward
