Job Profile
The Freight Trader will be a member of the Crude Oil Trading Book in Singapore, reporting to the department head and supporting SK Energy’s commodities trading business.
Responsibilities
Manage Freight Trading and Trading Position
- Charter for all products, crude and feedstock import, export, backhaul and trading shipments, including spot and time charters, to ensure that product is delivered safely, efficiently, reliably and cost effectively.
- Work closely with trading teams to provide value added advice and manage their freight positions.
- Apply principles of financial theory and understanding of oil markets and logistics to develop and implement profitable trading strategies.
- Develop and maintain long term relationships with vessel owners/ brokers to ensure tonnage availability at reasonable cost for trading teams.
- Identify trading and arbitrage opportunities within freight derivatives and futures market.
- Perform market analysis to support trading activities and to identify new business opportunities.
- Provide oversight into all operational and relevant financial aspects of the freight transactions to support incident free transportation of Company’s cargoes, and accurate and timely financial payments.
- Prepare management reports for review.
Business Support
- Provide other traders with technical and fundamental market information and recommend methods of hedging and leveraging its position.
- Provides market analysis and reporting as required.
Compliance
- Adherence to all internal and external regulatory requirements and limits.
Management Reporting
- Be ready for 24/7 reporting on anything related to Freight market to Management.
- Perform research and regularly report on market analysis, trading position and strategy to Management (bi-weekly/Monthly/Quarterly/Yearly).
- Prepare strategic management reports and work closely with Seoul HQ on trading activities.
Strategy Planning and Stakeholder Management
- Cultivate relationships that create trust, long-term partnership, collaboration while driving engagement with stakeholders.
- Devise multiple strategies of conflict management.
- Co-ordinate all parties to resolve the conflict and assess conflict situation by arriving at compromised solutions.
- Build long-term customer relationships and propose solution offerings that anticipates customers’ needs and exceeds expectations.
- Manage, initiate, and drive customer relationships and formulate Customer Relationship Management (CRM) strategies to improve business relationships with customers.
Candidate Profile
A self-motivated individual who value integrity, have willing brain engagement in going the extra miles to provide excellent and create happiness and values to stakeholders. A strong candidate should possess the following:
- Degree in International Trade, Business, Economics or other relevant qualifications with strong mathematical inclination
- Minimally 8 years of freight trading experience
- Minimally 8 years of chartering and operations experience
- Minimally 3 years of international trading experience
- Experienced in shipping industry including chartering and operations
- Deep understanding of the oil refinery's crude oil purchasing process and ability to communicate smoothly with the refinery's crude oil purchasing teams and personnel
- Good understanding of the global crude oil market and good & reliable relationships with Southeast & Far East Asia refineries and crude oil producers located in Asia and the Middle East
- Possess relevant experience in developing trade strategies such as spreads and arbitrage
- Strongly analytical and financial modelling skills to assimilate complex and ambiguous data to identify key issues and aid in decision making
- Highly motivated and organized individuals who exhibit strong integrity, work ethics and ability to perform under pressure
- Effective team player with excellent oral and written communication skills and strong stakeholder management skills
