Job description

We are seeking a commercially driven and entrepreneurial Freight Trader to join a dynamic owner-operator shipping company. This individual will be responsible for the trading and strategic positioning of tanker assets across a diverse range of refined and crude petroleum cargoes. You’ll be a key player in driving fleet performance and identifying profitable trading opportunities in both established and emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximize utilization and earnings of owned/controlled tanker assets through proactive and strategic market positioning.
  • Trade freight positions across spot, COA, and time charter markets, covering refined products and crude oil.
  • Identify and evaluate cargo opportunities in alignment with market trends and fleet capabilities.
  • Build and maintain robust relationships with charterers, traders, brokers, and shipowners to create and capture commercial value.
  • Monitor global freight markets, oil supply/demand dynamics, and trade flows to generate actionable insights.
  • Negotiate charter party terms and manage fixtures from initial discussions through to post-fixture execution.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, risk, and finance teams to ensure full-cycle deal execution.

Key Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in freight trading or chartering, ideally within a tanker owner/operator, energy company, or trading house.
  • In-depth understanding of refined product and crude oil markets, trade routes, and freight economics.
  • Strong commercial acumen and entrepreneurial drive with the ability to work independently and deliver results.
  • Skilled negotiator with a proven track record of deal-making and relationship-building.
  • Highly motivated, adaptable, and comfortable in a target-driven, fast-paced environment.
