Job summary

GlobalFoundries is seeking a motivated intern to join the Tape out organization as an Intern Frame Engineering in Singapore. The role supports frame design and process improvements, working with global engineers using semiconductor tools in Fabs.

You will engage in continuous process improvement, perform analysis with Failure Mode and Effects, and contribute to reducing risks while gaining hands‑on exposure in a leading semiconductor manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics during the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in daily frame engineering operations including frame requirements, layout, and generation for chips across sites.
  • Use internally developed and commercial tools to enhance design productivity and generate input files for Fabs and Mask House.
  • Make decisions to hold, elevate, promote, or reject tape-out issues in alignment with FAB and Tape-out teams.
  • Collaborate with Application, Product, Release, and Design Enablement teams to deliver a best-in-class Customer Tape-out experience.
  • Work with FAB and TD teams to improve efficiency, reduce costs and shorten cycle times.
  • Suggest process improvements and automation opportunities to boost team productivity.
  • Ensure processes are well documented and include mitigation for failure modes.

Summary of Role

GlobalFoundries is looking for a highly motivated individual to work in the Tape out organization, as an Intern Frame Engineering located in Singapore. The successful candidate will support tape out operations activities that would vary from frame design for a range of technologies to process improvements for enhanced productivity and quality. This role requires working with worldwide Frame and other engineers that use semiconductor manufacturing tools (i.e., lithography and metrology) and test tools in our Fabs. The successful candidate would be engaging in continuous process improvement in the increasingly complex world of chip manufacturing by applying Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, structured problem-solving and driving actions to reduce risks.

Essential Responsibilities & Project may include
  • Engage in daily operations activities: facilitating technology frame requirements, frame structures layout and frame generation for chips, ad-hoc change execution, work queue prioritization, and work hand-off across geographic locations.
  • Use or customize internally developed software tools and commercially available software tools to enhance design process productivity. (Include generating input files that drive automation for Fabs and Mask House.)
  • Make decisions to hold, elevate, promote and reject tape out support issues in alignment with FAB, Tape out Logistics Integration and FAEs.
  • Interact with other teams such as Application Engineering, Product Engineering, Release Team, and Design Enablement, to assist with providing a best-in-class Customer Tape-out Operations experience.
  • Close collaboration with FAB and TD Team to provide solution to improve efficiency, reduce costs and improve cycle time.
  • Participate in assessing our team business processes and suggest continuous improvements as well as automation opportunities to enhance the teams' productivity.
  • Ensure that processes are well documented, that failure modes are assessed and have mitigation and detection in place,

Other Responsibilities

Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Education – Actively pursuing a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics or related field through an accredited degree program during the time of internship.
  • Working knowledge of Unix shells and interest/aptitude to learn domain-specific programming/scripting languages/data formats.
  • Experience with Virtuoso environment and SKILL Programming.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.
  • Available for a 16–24 week credit‑bearing internship commencing January 2027.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior related internship or co‑op experience.
  • Device Layout Knowledge/Experience will be a plus.
  • Experience with Cadence Mask Compose is a big plus
  • An inquisitive mindset and a positive, proactive learning attitude.
