Job summary

Nas Company is recruiting a Founding Data Engineer to own and evolve our data platform end to end. You will inherit an existing stack, stabilise what works, fix what doesn’t, and define the next generation of our data platform for a fast‑moving startup.

You will own pipelines, improve data quality, model business metrics, and partner with analysts and leaders across the company. This role requires strong data engineering fundamentals and an AI‑native mindset to accelerate solutions.

Qualifications

The Role

We’re looking for a Founding Data Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of our data platform. We already have an existing data platform, pipelines, and data models. They have grown with the company, but parts of the system need stronger ownership, maintenance, and technical direction. You will inherit what exists, understand it deeply, stabilise what is working, fix what is not, and rebuild components where necessary. This is a founding role not because you are starting from a blank page, but because you will define what the next generation of our data platform should look like.

You will:

• Own pipelines connecting MongoDB transaction and product data, Google Analytics, CRM, financial systems, advertising platforms, and other operational sources to our data warehouse.
• Improve data quality, reliability, efficiency, and maintainability through better testing, monitoring, transformation, documentation, and ownership.
• Design data models and business metrics that help us understand company performance, product usage, and growth.
• Partner closely with Data Analysts and stakeholders across Product, Finance, Business Operations, Engineering, leadership, and the executive board.
• Build a practical data intelligence platform that makes trusted data easier for different teams to access and use.
• Manage the performance and cost of the platform, making pragmatic infrastructure decisions that fit the needs of a fast‑moving startup.
• Go beyond fulfilling data requests: investigate the business, identify growth opportunities, and help teams make better decisions.

Who We’re Looking For

• You have 5+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering or closely related engineering roles.
• You have built or set up production‑ready data infrastructure from scratch, ideally in a startup or similarly fast‑moving environment.
• You understand how to choose a pragmatic technology stack for a startup — balancing speed, scalability, cost, operational complexity, and long‑term maintenance.
• You have strong data‑modelling and engineering fundamentals, with experience building and operating production data pipelines.
• You care about the entire system: data quality, reliability, efficiency, infrastructure cost, usability, and maintenance — not only one part of the platform.
• You have strong agency and accountability. You can take a broad, messy problem and own it through to a working outcome.
• You have an exploratory mindset. You are comfortable investigating unfamiliar systems, working through unclear requirements, challenging assumptions, and finding answers where none are immediately obvious.
• You are already AI‑native and use AI extensively to accelerate engineering, investigation, documentation, and problem‑solving.
• You communicate clearly and enjoy working directly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• You are curious about the business behind the data, not only the infrastructure carrying it.

Experience with AWS, MongoDB, BigQuery, dbt, Google Analytics, and advertising‑platform data is a strong plus. Previous experience as a software engineer or data analyst is also valuable.
