Job summary

HUD is seeking an Applied Research Engineer to own implementation for our RL training data platform and HUD marketplace. You’ll diagnose ambiguous technical problems, run evals, and clean data at scale, working closely with frontier AI labs and data vendors.

We value a strong generalist AI engineer who can move quickly and collaborate with researchers and GTM teams to deliver reusable tooling while balancing speed and reliability in fast‑paced environments. On‑site in SF Bay Area or Singapore.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python, Docker, and Linux environments.
• Experience with benchmarks and evals; ability to define realistic tasks and rubrics.
• Strong debugging instincts across code, data, and environments.
• Ability to operate independently in ambiguous situations without a full roadmap.
• Good judgment on when to move fast, escalate, or prioritize correctness and security.
• Comfort working directly with technical customers, vendors, or cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Own deployment requests from frontier AI labs, data vendors, and internal teams end‑to‑end.
• Clarify ambiguous asks by asking the right questions to identify needs.
• Build tools and pipelines to resolve urgent customer or partner problems.
• Coordinate with research and GTM teams to unblock deployments.
• Balance speed and quality when customers need fast turnaround.
• Document recurring issues and turn repeated manual work into reusable tools.
