Job summary

Morgan Philips Group seeks a senior firmware engineer to lead architecture and development of next-generation switch-mode power supplies. You’ll mentor junior engineers and work with hardware and software teams to deliver robust, scalable embedded solutions.

You’ll design, implement, test and integrate firmware across MCUs, DSPs and communication stacks (I2C, SPI, RS-485, PMBus, Modbus, Ethernet) in a regulated environment, supporting manufacturing at product launch.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5–7 years of embedded firmware development experience.
• Strong embedded C skills on Microchip, TI and/or ST microcontrollers and DSPs.
• Experience developing communication stack drivers and protocols such as I2C, SPI, RS-485, PMBus, Modbus and Ethernet.
• Experience with embedded control or signal-processing (DSP) algorithms.
• Comfortable debugging in embedded environments, including reproducing intermittent failures.
• Confident with lab equipment and with reading schematics and datasheets.
• Familiar with version control (e.g. SVN) and release methodologies.
• Disciplined and detail-oriented, writing robust, readable code.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and comfortable working with remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to product definition, specifications and requirements analysis with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Shape firmware architecture and development strategy, especially for wired and wireless communications.
• Design, code, integrate, test and enhance embedded and PC software for power conversion systems in a regulated development environment.
• Design new products to spec and on schedule, and improve existing designs for performance and cost.
• Run system integration, validation and interoperability testing, including automated test programs.
• Evaluate existing and emerging technologies for reliable operation across diverse installed environments.
• Take part in software qualification activities, including SFMEA and code reviews.
• Support prototypes, BETA production runs and factory teams on design-related issues.
• Work with local and remote hardware and software teams on integration.
• Coach junior firmware engineers and give technical direction to the team.

Job description

You’ll report to the Firmware Team Lead and play a key part in developing next-generation switch-mode power supplies. The work covers firmware architecture, development, verification and prototyping, through to supporting manufacturing at product launch. It’s a hands‑on senior role where you’ll also give technical direction and mentor junior engineers.

What You’ll Bring

Nice to Have

• Digital control or firmware for power electronics (PWM, ADC, digital filters)
• Understanding of power supply topologies and analog/digital circuitry
• IoT, TCP/IP, WebSocket, LwIP or FreeRTOS experience
• Software development in C# and GUI tools
• Familiarity with MISRA, IEC 62304 or other coding standards
