A leading educational company in Singapore is seeking a Finance Controller. This senior role involves overseeing financial management, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading teams in Singapore and Malaysia. The Finance Controller is a senior finance position responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of financial management for Global EduHub. In this role, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and the implementation of robust internal controls. You will lead the finance teams in Singapore and Malaysia, providing financial leadership and ensuring consistency in processes across both countries. This role requires a hands-on professional with a strong audit background and at least 5 years of experience to maintain high standards of financial governance and to support strategic decision-making at the group level.
Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements and management reports, ensuring they are completed on time and in accordance with regulatory standards. Provide high-level financial analysis to support business decisions and strategy.
Compliance and Controls: Monitor and continuously improve internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and all relevant financial regulations. This includes maintaining adherence to statutory requirements and preparing for regulatory audits or inspections as needed.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting exercises to guide financial planning and support strategic objectives. Analyze budget variances and provide insights and recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
Cash Flow Management: Manage cash flow and treasury functions, including liquidity planning, cost control measures, and optimization of working capital. Ensure the company’s financial resources are efficiently managed to meet operational needs and growth plans.
Audit Coordination: Coordinate and manage the annual financial audits, liaising with external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure timely completion of all audit requirements. Implement audit recommendations and strengthen financial processes to meet best-practice standards.
Financial Reporting to Management: Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports, analyses, and business recommendations to the Group CFO and senior management. Support management in understanding financial results and the implications for business strategy and performance.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor finance team members in both Singapore and Malaysia, fostering a high-performance culture and effective collaboration across borders. Provide guidance and training to ensure the teams maintain professional standards and deliver quality work.
Collaboration with Operations: Partner with the Operations team to provide financial insights, ensure proper resource allocation, finance-related operational deliverables and support centre-level performance.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. An advanced degree (e.g. MBA or Master’s in Finance) is advantageous but not required.
- Professional Certification: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification is required, as it demonstrates a high level of professional competency in accounting.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in finance/accounting, with proven progression in responsibilities. This experience must include hands-on audit exposure (external audit with an accounting firm or internal audit experience), as well as familiarity with financial reporting and compliance.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or leadership role. Able to manage and motivate a finance team, delegate tasks effectively, and lead cross-functional projects.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (e.g. IFRS or Singapore Financial Reporting Standards) and statutory regulations in Singapore. Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, as well as advanced MS Excel skills for financial analysis.
- Analytical Ability: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with acute attention to detail. Able to interpret financial data, perform variance analysis, and provide insights to support business decisions.
- Integrity and Compliance: High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism. Deep understanding of internal control principles and risk management practices to ensure robust financial governance.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to clearly present financial information and reports to non-financial stakeholders and work collaboratively with other departments and external partners.
Location: This position is based on-site in Singapore at Global Eduhub’s headquarters.
Working Hours: Mondays to Fridays, 8:30am – 5:30pm. Standard business hours with occasional additional hours as needed during peak reporting or audit periods.
The Finance Controller will report directly to the Group Chief Financial Officer (Group CFO). In this capacity, you will function as a key finance partner to the Group CFO, providing regular updates on financial performance and ensuring that the finance function aligns with the group’s strategic objectives.
