Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific in Singapore is seeking a Field Service Engineer II to join a team delivering on-site installation, service and repair of high-end analytical instruments. You will collaborate with engineers across networks, vacuum theory, and chemistry to ensure equipment performance and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or related field preferred, or 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with SEM, TEM, FIB or Prober systems is a plus.
• Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) is a plus.
• Experience operating oscilloscopes and digital voltmeters.

Responsibilities

How you will make an impact:

The Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, servicing and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems.

The Field Service Engineer II will join a complementary team of engineers with skills ranging from sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high vacuum theory, electron optics and chemistry. This role provides the opportunity to grow within Field Services and across the Thermo Fisher organization. What you will do:

• Assists/conducts on-site installation of complex equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order




• Assists on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits




• Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel




• Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users and company personnel




• Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel




• Complete and submit field service reports




• Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance




• Provide feedback to product quality teams




• Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various system documentation




• Provide feedback for various reports including identifying and isolating unique problems with system




• Align with application scientists to collaborate on outstanding solutions to meet our users challenges




• Must maintain Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ 4i Values.

How you will get here:

Minimum Education/Experience

• A degree from a from a technical or undergrad program in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred; or 2+ years of relevant combination of skills and experience.




• Operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating complex analysis tools such as a SEM (https://www.thermofisher.com/search/browse/category/us/en/90184058?gptExactMatch=true) , TEM (https://www.thermofisher.com/search/browse/category/us/en/90184060?gptExactMatch=true) , FIB (https://www.thermofisher.com/search/results?query=Focused%20Ion%20Beam&focusarea=Search%20All) , Prober or similar systems is a plus but not required.




• Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) a plus but not required.




• Experience operating O-scopes, digital voltmeter and logical problem solving.

• Required to read, write, and speak English fluently.




• Ability to work under pressure, with a consistent record to make decisions with minimal direct supervision.

• Literate in Windows software environments




• Basic trouble shooting skills preferred




• Ability to read and interpret schematics preferred

• Must be willing to travel 0-25% of the time.




• Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport and travel regionally and internationally as the need arises.




• Extensive walking may be required.




• Work at customer locations, in FAB environment.




• Must be able to secure entrance to customer locations/facilities.




• Potentially pass-through areas where chemical-based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc.)




• Depending on area of building, personal protective equipment may be worn to include lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets, safety gloves, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, and/or bump hats.




• Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 40 lbs (~18kg).
