Baltic Exchange is the world's leading source of independent maritime market data and we have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to join our Commercial Services Team as a FFA, Data and Events Manager (Asia) based in Singapore.

Representing a global community of shipping interests, the Baltic Exchange provides a framework for its members to commit to a high standard of business practice. Our indices and assessments are used as a settlement tool for freight derivative trades, for benchmarking physical contracts and as a general indicator of freight market performance extending coverage to the wider logistics chain including Containers and Air Freight.

Headquartered in London, we have regional offices in Singapore, Shanghai, Athens, Stamford, and Houston. Since 2016, The Baltic Exchange is part of the Singapore Exchange (SGX) Family.

This position of a FFA, Data and Events Manager (Asia) supports the Commercial Services team to establish, promote, maintain, and expand relationships with Baltic members, data licence subscribers and other commercial users of Baltic data and services. This position works with exchanges across Asia in promoting new Freight Derivative products. This position is responsible for seeking out prospects, achieving sales, organising local member and user events and working with local partners. Additional responsibilities will also include speaking at conferences, events and forums to promote the use of Baltic data and FFAs in trading and commercial decisions.

Job Responsibilities
  • The primary focus and purpose of the role will be the promotion of Baltic data in the Asia Pacific; its use in physical contracts and managing risk through the use of Forward Freight Agreements - this will involve working with exchanges in the region, speaking at events and identifying and converting financial institutions
  • Other responsibilities include -
  • Increase membership and data licence subscribers in the region.
  • Organising sales’ visits to targeted countries and prospects around the region, in line with the sales and
  • marketing plan and strategic objectives.
  • Handling queries from sales prospects and existing clients, onboarding and guiding them on the use of Baltic services and data, where required.
  • Support the Channel Partner Lead to increase sales from new channel partners, where required.
  • Monthly reporting of sales and marketing activities against targets.
  • Working with clients to ensure the customer understands the Baltic brand and services.
  • Organising Baltic Exchange-branded events such as local forums, seminars, Young Baltic Association (YBA) and sports events.
  • Attending and speaking at other relevant events to network and promote Baltic services
  • Pursuing collaborations with relevant organisations and associations to promote Baltic services
  • Assisting with the development of promotional material and advertising which are relevant, comprehensive and compelling to support marketing initiatives.
Job Requirements
  • Experience in derivatives, especially FFAs, is essential – either in trading or broking
  • Track record of speaking, or being part of a panel, at events
  • Track record of organising forums/events
  • Experience in speaking to, and knowledge of, financial institutions
  • Demonstrable successful track record in sales and relationship building and the ability to deal with clients and members
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Good project management skills and focused attitude to drive implementation of initiatives and sale’s campaigns
  • Broad knowledge and experience in the maritime sector
  • A good understanding of Baltic Exchange’s services, especially data and indices
  • Good network of contacts in the financial, maritime, or commodity sector.
  • Good network of contacts across Asia ex-China
  • Innovative thinking and the ability to bring fresh ideas to the sales and marketing function.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work on their own and as part of a team
  • Organised and methodical with an ability to prioritise andfor meeting deadlines
  • Proficient in using MS Office suite
  • Some overseas travel may be required
