The Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) invites applications for a tenure/practice-tracked faculty position.

We are seeking candidates who have demonstrated leadership in rigorous and impactful research with translation potential, or who already have evidence of translation within related fields related to population health. Specific areas of interest may include, but not limited to, aging, patterns of health and social determinants, gerontechnology, sociology of health, community intervention. An interest in interdisciplinary approaches to studying the interrelationships between gerontology, technology, artificial intelligence, design, community healthcare, and human behavior, is desirable. The ideal candidate will possess a collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit, and be adept at applying statistical, data science and or/machine learning methods with a critical perspective in the behavioral and community health domain to create societal impact.

The candidate will also be considered for a director role in the Center for Healthcare Education, Entrepreneurship and Research @SUTD. As an academic director, the candidate will interact with the governing bodies, funding agencies, academic and the industrial eco-systems to advance the interest of SUTD’s healthcare agenda. This position is part of a broader university-wide focus on both 'Healthcare' and 'Artificial Intelligence'. The ideal candidate will complement and strengthen the HASS cluster and collaborate with colleagues across SUTD that work on similar topics from architecture, engineering and computer science perspectives.

Candidates should hold a PhD in cognitive epidemiology, population health sciences, gerontology, sociology (with a focus on health or aging), or related field, with a proven track record of active research, effective teaching, and excellent service with a commitment to interdisciplinary research collaborations. The successful candidate will enhance the university’s teaching and research focus on healthcare issues.

Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) offers Engineering and Architecture degrees with a strong emphasis on creating a better world by design through nurturing socially cognizant innovators, technologists and entrepreneurs. The HASS cluster plays a pivotal and critical role in the university's commitment towards world class teaching and research excellence. The current HASS faculty bring core expertise in anthropology, geography, history, literature, media and communication, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and urban studies. This unique combination of interdisciplinary faculty has given rise to thought-provoking research and teaching that contribute significantly to particular disciplines, as well as interdisciplinary projects with other pillars at SUTD such as Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD), Engineering Product Development (EPD), Engineering Systems and Design (ESD), Design and Artificial Intelligence (DAI), and Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD).

SUTD's academic year consists of three terms, with every third term designated as research term. We specifically seek creative scholars/practitioners with the potential for developing new directions in humanities and social sciences teaching and research, and who are interested in joining an interdisciplinary group of scholars at an engineering and design university.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development and functioning of both the HASS program and SUTD. This includes teaching and developing courses in their speciality, in addition to teaching in the department's team-taught core courses. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree or equivalent in an appropriate field by the start date.
