Job Description

The Finance Team Lead is responsible for leading a team in resource planning, analysis, and reporting, including budgeting, financial forecasting, and cost-benefit analysis. The role also involves providing finance business partnering support to faculties, enhancing internal controls, managing gift finance, and ensuring the integration and improvement of financial systems and processes. The finance lead will collaborate with faculty and central management, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain accurate financial records and reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities
Resource Planning, Analysis, and Reporting:

  • Plan annual budgets and prepare financial forecasts and variance reports.
  • Prepare cost-benefit and profitability analysis and simulations for programmes/projects.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics for cost/overall performance tracking.
  • Allocate the budget to faculties and departments. Prepare the Faculty/Department's annual/quarterly/monthly financial positions for management review.
  • Devise and monitor cost-effective and efficient data accumulation systems/processes to provide appropriate costing information to management.
  • Support long-term financial projection to aid in strategic planning.

Finance Business Partnering Support to Faculties:

  • Provide finance business partnering support to faculty. Enhance finance business partnering capabilities within faculties.
  • Assist faculty and central management in reviewing faculty budgets and resource allocation.
  • Drive finance functional synergies across faculties.
  • Provide support on financial matters that are not centralized (e.g., assisting with withholding tax matters).
Internal Controls:
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in workflows to achieve greater efficiency.
  • Review business processes and accounting frameworks to strengthen internal controls and accountability.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.

Gift Finance:

  • Ensure timely receipt and recording of donations and matching grants.
  • Plan for the utilization of donated funds in accordance with donors' specifications.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting as needed.

Systems and Processes:

  • Maintain and ensure that the Faculty/Department's satellite sub-systems (if any) are properly integrated with the University's ERP systems.
  • Continuously provide insights and requirements, and actively participate in or drive projects to support the central team in improving systems and processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and above in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field. CPA, CFA is a plus.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance with a focus in financial planning, strategy development and analysis experience.
  • Experience in people management is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities. Communicates in a clear, succinct, organized and convincing manner.
  • Independent, resourceful, and able to work collaboratively with business stakeholders.
  • Strong project and change management skillsets, including the ability to coordinate and balance multiple workstreams in time-sensitive environment, under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in using data analytics and technology tools to deliver FP&A outcomes.
  • Good working knowledge of IFRS, business processes and controls.
