The Facility Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, compliance, and maintenance of all building infrastructure and systems within the pharmaceutical manufacturing site. This role ensures that all areas of the facility meet GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and regulatory requirements while also maintaining high standards of operational reliability, safety, and sustainability.
1. Operation and Maintenance of Critical Building Systems
Operate, monitor, and maintain GMP-compliant systems (cleanroom system, fire protection system, general building issues, plumbing, building related electrical, and mechanical systems.
Support gowning room functionality, airlocks, and pass-throughs
Conduct regular inspections to ensure systems are functioning efficiently and safely.
Prepare and manage building budgets, expense tracking, and reporting.
2. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
Develop and implement GMP-compliant preventive maintenance (PM) schedules.
Perform corrective maintenance with minimal impact on production and within quality guidelines.
Follow change control procedures when making any system modifications.
Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for work orders and records.
3. Building Inspections and Safety
Conduct regular building inspections for fire safety, health compliance, and overall structural integrity.
Ensure building codes, safety standards, and local regulations are met.
Collaborate with third-party inspectors or government agencies when necessary.
Support facility readiness for audits and inspections (FDA, internal QA, ISO).
4. Project Management and Upgrades
Assist in planning and executing minor construction or renovation projects.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other service providers.
Oversee upgrades or retrofitting of building systems for efficiency or code compliance.
5. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain logs of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and system performance.
Prepare reports for site managers or facility owners.
Keep documentation for compliance audits and equipment warranties
Work closely with Quality Assurance, Validation, Production, and EHS teams.
6. Emergency Response
Respond to building emergencies (e.g., leaks, power outages, HVAC failures).
Be part of the emergency preparedness team, including fire drills or evacuation procedures
7. Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
Support energy-saving initiatives in compliance with GMP
Monitor and analyse energy usage; recommend improvements.
Support green building initiatives (e.g., LEED, Energy Star).
Implement strategies to reduce waste and optimize resource use.
Requirements:
Diploma/Degree in Mechanical or Electrical, or Facility Engineering or related field.
Minimum 3–5 years of facility maintenance experience in a GMP-regulated environment (pharmaceutical, biotech, etc.) or semiconductor environment
Strong understanding of cleanroom operations, BMS, and utility systems
Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and EH&S standards.
Good problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Able to work on rotating shifts or on-call if required.
