MITRE ASIA PACIFIC SINGAPORE (MAPS)
Experienced Air Traffic Management Applied Research Engineer/Scientist

Under the initial sponsorship of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), The MITRE Corporation, a U.S.-based, globally renowned research and development company, established its premier air traffic management research center in Singapore in 2015 to support the growth in the Asia Pacific Region. This research center, MITRE Asia Pacific Singapore (MAPS), needs an experienced Air Traffic Management (ATM) expert to be part of a dynamic team of multi-disciplinary professionals working to improve air traffic operations in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region.


The ideal candidate is an established career expert in ATM and Air Traffic Flow Management, passion for technology and innovation, possesses excellent verbal and written technical communication skills, and strong analytical abilities.


A successful candidate will:

  • Provide expert advice on air traffic control operations, procedures, and best practices to ensure applicability of new technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers in the development of new tools to meet operational needs.
  • Apply analytical methods to assist in issues discovery in complex aviation operating environments.
  • Support in the planning of Human in the Loop experiments, table top exercises, and live shadow tests.
  • Advise on safety case analyses and facilitate panels.
  • Provide thought leadership to colleagues, sponsors, and the aviation industry, to develop novel ATM concepts and technology solutions to support improved operational efficiency, air traffic capacity, and safety.
  • Use technical expertise and know-how to plan, architect, build, and test operational prototypes in both laboratory and operational air traffic environments.
  • Actively partner with customers, industry stakeholders, and peer researchers to develop data-driven solutions that meet user needs without compromise.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 12+ years Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) with multiple ratings (e.g. APP, DEP, En route, Aerodrome) OR other qualified experience such as academic/applied researcher or aviation systems product/technology developer that demonstrates deep knowledge of air traffic operations, procedures and information and automation systems.
  • Possesses knowledge of communications, navigation, surveillance, and automation systems, subsystems and data that support air traffic operations.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering sciences (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Systems), mathematics, physics, computer science, or other related technical degree program.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following competencies or attributes:

  • Have participated in the development of air traffic control systems, integrations, or operational trials
  • Masters or doctorate in a relevant technical field
  • Command of Systems Engineering processes
  • Advanced data analysis techniques and statistical methods
  • Development of simulations to model complex systems
  • Human-centered product design and testing
  • Weather and atmospheric phenomenon that affect air traffic operations
  • Commercial airline /air transport operations (including certificated pilots)
