Job description

The Bed Management Unit (BMU) Executive is responsible for the effective coordination, planning, and allocation of inpatient beds across the hospital. The role ensures optimal use of bed capacity to support patient flow, operational efficient and high standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and coordinate daily hospital bed occupancy, admissions, transfers, and discharges across wards and units.
  • Collaborate with Nursing, Patient Service Centre, Emergency Department, and Clinical Departments to ensure timely placement and movement of patients.
  • Manage surge capacity and support escalation protocols during high-demand periods.
  • Lead or support initiatives to improve bed turnaround time and patient flow efficiency.
  • Analyse bed utilisation data and generate reports for senior management to guide planning and resource allocation.
  • Develop and maintain bed management SOPs and workflows in alignment with hospital policies.
  • Routine review of bed management’s risks register, environmental hazard indicator, business continuity planning, and data inventory mapping.
  • Propose improvements to bed management work via workflow change or system enhancements to meet hospital goals.
  • Participate in hospital operations meetings and contribute to capacity planning, including during outbreaks or mass casualty situations.
  • Train, supervise, and develop bed management staff (if applicable).

Requirements

  • Relevant degree in Healthcare Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in hospital operations or patient flow management.
  • Strong understanding of hospital workflows, inpatient care processes, and surge management.
  • Proficient in hospital IT systems related to admissions and bed tracking. Experience in EPIC NGEMR is advantageous
  • Good communication, critical thinking, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environment.
