Job summary

Singapore Airlines seeks a Flight Controller to join Flight Services & Fuel Efficiency in the Operations Control Centre (TMM) in Singapore. You will monitor flight progress, coordinate delays and diversions, and inform crew of changes to ensure smooth operations.

The trainee program lasts about 12 months with competency assessments; a bond applies during training and for two years thereafter.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably with a background in Flight Operations or pilots ATPL.
  • Able to work on shift duties.
  • Training program typically runs for 12 months; competency assessments before appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor flight progress and disseminate flight information.
  • Evaluate route and safety information and assess impact on flights.
  • Keep the operations crew informed via ACARS.
  • Strive to minimise flight delays and passenger inconvenience.
  • Arrange additional flights or relief flights as required.
  • Coordinate delays or diversions to enroute stations.
  • Act on procedures for accidents, incidents, and emergencies.
  • Analyse causes of delays to improve handling.
  • Monitor Flight Following and update flight plans for fuel scenarios.
  • Communicate changes to flight plan with Technical Crew and Dispatchers.
  • Monitor significant weather and provide rerouting for resilience.
  • Monitor ad-hoc disruptions to air routes/airspaces.
  • Coordinate arrival and departure sequencing and related measures.
  • Maintain Flight Dispatch currency.
  • Ensure SIN ATFM measures are communicated to the crew.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Job description

The successful candidate will join the Flight Services & Fuel Efficiency department in SIA Operations Control Centre (TMM).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the progress of SIA flights and disseminate relevant flight information to parties concerned.
  • Consistently evaluate route and operational safety information, such as curtailment of airport facilities, including runways and fueling facilities, industrial unrest, meteorological warnings, and crew flight time limitations, while assessing their impact on flights.
  • Keep the operations crew informed via ACARS when necessary.
  • Work to minimise flight delays and passenger inconvenience.
  • Arrange additional flights, charters and/or relief flights as required.
  • Coordinate and handle delays or special diversions to enroute stations or airports when commercial, economic, or technical circumstances require it.
  • Act under stipulated procedures for accidents/incidents involving SIA aircraft and property, as well as for emergencies such as hijackings, bomb threats and/or medical emergencies involving SIA or Star-Alliance partner flights in Singapore.
  • Analyse the cause of flight delays and their subsequent handling with the objective of improving the handling techniques to avoid or minimise their recurrence.
  • Monitor flight progress (Flight Following) & revise/update flight plans, noting changes in critical fuel scenarios for (EDTO) (Extended Diversion Time Operation)
  • Communicate with Technical Crew and Flight Dispatchers on changes to flight plan when necessary; in-flight re-routing due to revised operating conditions, airspace and/or weather-related matters, further route optimisation, etc.
  • Monitor significant weather (e.g., Typhoon, Volcanic Ash, severe weather around terminal airspaces) and provide the necessary rerouting and information for operational resilience.
  • Monitor ad-hoc significant disruption to air routes/airspaces.
  • Coordinate arrival & departure sequencing, European Delay Management, Tactical Cost Index Adjustment and others.
  • Maintain Flight Dispatch currency.
  • Ensure SIN ATFM Management Measures are communicated to the crew.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the department.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably with a background in Flight Operations or pilots ATPL
  • As this is an operational role, you will need to be able to work on shift duties

Successful candidates will undergo a suitable training program that typically runs for 12 months. Training duration for candidates with relevant experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The trainee must successfully complete the training program and competency assessments before being appointed as Flight Controller.

Successful candidates are required to sign a bond for the duration of training and two years thereafter.
