A leading financial institution is seeking a senior leader in sustainable finance to guide strategic projects and manage client relationships focused on ESG. Candidates should have substantial banking experience, particularly in 'hard to abate' sectors, and demonstrate exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills.
DBS Institutional Banking Group (IBG) provides corporate customers with a full range of commercial banking products and services, including trade finance, working capital finance, term loans, and capital markets fundraising. DBS has cultivated long-standing relationships with its customers in the region and is well-connected in Asia. IBG serves multinational, large, and small to medium-sized customers to grow their businesses. Since October 2021, DBS has been a signatory of the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) and has established glide paths for key ‘hard to abate’ sectors. We aim to partner with our customers to transition to a low-carbon economy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Approach Towards Sustainable Finance
* Lead within IBG Sustainability, balancing ESG risks and opportunities across hard-to-abate sectors and clients.
* Systematically engage clients through prioritization (e.g., strategic clients, top financed emissions, industry champions).
* Guide the team on embedding ESG advisory into client discussions, aligning with business profiles and long-term plans.
* Link client strategies to ESG priorities, decarbonization targets, and stakeholder positioning.
* Maintain a client-centric approach, facilitating discussions with C-suite executives such as CFOs and Treasurers.
* Enhance DBS’s positioning on ESG with clients and investors, including participation in Greenwich Survey.
2. Robust ESG Risk Lens
* Understand environmental risks for sectors like Power & Utilities, Oil & Gas, Metals & Mining, Chemicals, Shipping, and Aviation.
* Articulate ESG risks and considerations during client engagement, deal origination, and execution.
* Oversee ESG Risk Assessments, especially for High and Very High Risk clients.
* Monitor watchlist clients, update mitigation actions, and align with stakeholders on the bank’s stance.
* Contribute to GSMC and CSO responses to NGO letters and negative media.
3. Team Management & Nurturing a Constructive Culture
* Foster responsiveness and a positive culture within the team.
* Track KPIs, provide guidance, and support team development.
* Upskill team members and provide exposure to grow their careers.
* Identify and nurture key talents.
4. Portfolio Discipline & Strategic Projects
* Ensure disciplined portfolio management, including deal pipeline and engagement tracking.
* Contribute to strategic projects, presentations, and business reviews for senior management.
Requirements:
* Over 15 years in banking, with at least 10 years in leadership roles and expertise in corporate client-facing roles, including sustainable finance.
* Background in Corporate & Investment Banking, with experience in ‘hard to abate’ sectors.
* Strong business acumen, client relationship skills, and ability to lead financing solutions across teams.
* Experience in environmental and social due diligence.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and team leadership abilities.
