Job summary

Teradyne in Woodlands, Singapore is seeking a field service engineer to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on HDD test systems and storage machines. You will develop preventive maintenance plans and lead root-cause analyses using 8D, FMEA, and other tools.

The role requires strong mechatronics knowledge, hands-on problem solving, and travel readiness. On-site work and customer-facing activities are a core part of the job, with a focus on quality and long-term partnerships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics or related Engineering disciplines is preferred.
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles including bearings, gearboxes, actuators, and pneumatic systems.
• Knowledge of electrical fundamentals (AC/DC, power distribution, grounding) and sensors is required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and data analysis.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills; good presentation and communication in English.

• Improve troubleshooting methods and processes continuously.

Opportunity Overview

• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on hard drive testing and smart storage machines, including components such as motors, drivers, sensors, actuators, pneumatic systems, and control panels.
• Continuously improving troubleshooting methods and processes.
• Develop preventive and corrective maintenance execution process and plan.
• Fluent in 8D reports using problem-solving tools such as FMEA, Fishbone Diagram, 5-Why, and 4W1H.
• Conduct regular meetings with customers to discuss installation plans, service activities, and provide daily/weekly service reports. Communicate effectively regarding issues, root causes, and corrective/preventive actions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction and long-term partnership.

• Strong understanding of mechatronic fundamentals:
  • 60% : Solid knowledge of mechanical principles such as bearings, gearboxes, actuators, and pneumatic systems.
  • 20% : knowledge of electrical fundamentals, including AC/DC principles, power distribution, protective devices, and grounding
  • 20% : Knowledge of electronics fundamentals, including sensors, transducers, and analog/digital signals.
• Ability to use AI tools (preferably Microsoft solutions) or excel to analyze the data.
• Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Solid presentation skills and effective communication in English.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate effectively as part of a team to achieve objectives.
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally.

Desirable:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics is preferred or other relevant Engineering disciplines such as Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical.

• 3 years or above of experience in HDD test systems or service or maintenance or other precise automation related fields (preferred).
