A leading company in the construction sector is seeking an Environmental Control Officer. This role is essential for ensuring that construction projects proceed in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to regulations and maintaining site health standards. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of environmental laws and have strong communication skills, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. This position will require coordination with various stakeholders to ensure compliance and minimize environmental impact.
Purpose of Job / Job Summary
The Environmental Control Officer (ECO) is to ensure that construction or industrial activities are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner, minimizing harm to the environment and complying with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
Discharge his duties as in the Code of Practice of Environmental Control Officer;
Prepare and submit the Site Environmental Control Programme according to the format required under the Code of Practice for Environmental Control Officer to the Project Manager/Construction Manager for approval;
Prepare and submit the Site Environmental Control Report to the Project Manager/Construction Manager according to the format required under the Code of Practice for Environmental Control Officer to the Project Manager/Construction Manager for endorsement;
The main areas of concern are:
disease-bearing insects and rodents;
proper disposal of construction waste / marine clay;
noise, air and water pollution;
earth littering;
siltation of drains;
food hygiene in canteen;
proper maintenance of septic tank(s) / holding tank(s), chemical / portable toilet(s) and other sanitary facilities; and any other environmental health matters.
Inspect the construction site to ensure all facilities and equipment relevant to the maintenance of environmental health are in proper working condition and do not pose any environmental health hazard;
Attend to all feedback on such irregulations and inform the Project Manager of the construction accordingly;
Organize campaigns, training courses and other activities.

Qualifications
Registered Environmental Control Officer with National Environment Agency
Earth Control Measures Officer course
Experience
At least 3 years post registration and practical experience relevant to the scope of works of the contract
Specific skills/abilities
In-depth knowledge of Environmental legal guidelines to advise and facilitate site activities
Familiar with ISO 14001
Personal qualities
Excellent presentation skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Coordination with Subcon, QP(S), Client, various agencies, and interfacing parties
